Spirit Airlines's Pet Travel Policy
The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) regulates air transportation of pets and all airlines are required by law to follow the guidelines outlined on our Air Travel Regulations for Pets page. Individual airlines may impose further restrictions or fees for flying with your pet. Spirit Airlines's pet policy is described below.
Any questions? Call Spirit Airlines at 800-772-7117
Pets in the Cabin:
A maximum of 4 pet carriers is permitted in the cabin on all domestic flights including San Juan, Puerto Rico. Your pet carrier must be able to fit under the seat and its dimensions must not exceed 18"x14"x9". Soft-sided containers are allowed in the cabin. Animals must remain in their carrier at all times while on board the aircraft.
The fee to transport pets in the cabin is $50 each way per container. The fee will be charged during check-in at the airport ticket counter. It cannot be prepaid prior to the day of departure.
Pets Checked with Baggage:
The number of pets allowed in the baggage area is subject to space availability. Animals may be transported in the pressurized cargo compartment whenever there is not a pet embargo in effect. The embargo is usually from May 15 to September 15, when it is too hot for pets to travel in the cargo compartment. Pets cannot be transported in the cargo compartment on Airbus aircraft nor may pets be checked on flights involving a change of aircraft. No more than one animal may be contained in a kennel and each kennel is subject to inspection and approval by Spirit.
There is a fee of $50 for the transport of each pet kennel, each way.
