    It’s ok

Well the dogs are good it’s the people that are the problem the little dog people some of them are busier and then their dog gets a little crowded there they have way too much mulch on the big dog side for them to chew on pooping and not as much grass they should have more grass unless mulch on the large dog side and a lot of people don’t pick up their dog poop

Don't judge a book by its reviews

I was skeptical like everyone because of the reviews but we went today and it was awesome. Some trash thrown in back of us by the trees but water was pretty clean. I guess it depends when you go. My baby had loads of fun though!

    Garbage Beach

I read the reviews, and so was prepared for Gerritson not to be Tahiti. (Or even Coney.) My expectations were definitely managed. But this was *significantly* disgusting. A ton of garbage, in the water and out. The situation was best the farther down we went, but even at the end of the shoal there was an unsettling mix of Hefty bags, old socks, rubber gloves, sandwich wrappers, and dead fish. I marked this 2 bones not 1 because it's true that the dogs had fun and there are no rules. But one of the pups immediately got conjunctivitis, so. Yeah. Gross place.

    Slimy

Glass, garbage everywhere. Took my fur baby there for a run on the beach . He ended up with some rash on his stomach. Cost me a bunch at the vet. We don't be going back

Great beach to play with dog

Water is cleaner during high tide but low tide there is much more sand for dogs to play no leash allowed from 9 to 9 even a view of city from the end of the beach

    Totally Fine

Echoing what most people have said, it's just a little bay where locals seem to gather and hang out. It's certainly not the cleanest place, but really it's on par with any other city beach. There's the occasional glass shard, and the water isn't the cleanest, but my dogs got to run around and play in the water, so honestly it's a pretty good find. Locals are chill, drive was easy, if you want a beach your dogs can run around in and don't want to leave the city, this is a fine place to come.

    It SUFFICES!

Geez people.. so picky. Yes, it's not clean.. and there are no rules, but my furbaby loveeed it there. Once you get inside, there's an area that is clear of algae and filled with guppy like fish and relatively calm and shallow.... She was running around like mad and having a blast and trying to catch the fish. I was in the water with her.. It was cool and clean! I love this place. But yes, litter bugs... blah blah blah. Get over it.

It may not be the Carribbean, but its a beach!

So far, all the reviews are pretty accurate, BUT you must consider that there are not too many places you can bring your four-legged buddy with you to relax on the beach! It's a long & narrow strip of sand with lots of seaweed, some trash washed ashore, lots of dead jellyfish (so be careful!) and not many shells or pretty rocks. It's beach sand and water, not by any means a glamorous or exciting beach - HOWEVER, my experience today was that everyone was extremely friendly and tolerant of the dogs, no crowds, (or services, so use a bathroom before you come!) ) its free, there's plenty of street parking and doggies can run and frolic to their hearts content! It did not smell nor was there anything the least bit offensive about this Gerritsen Ave beach, especially if you want to spend the day with your dog!! I will certainly be back!!

Not the best but still a beach you can take your dog within reach of the city

We were so torn about whether or not to take our dog to this beach given the fairly positive description and terrible review - Given the holiday weekend and the fact that we feared getting stuck in traffic heading up to the beaches with 4 bones (ie. New Smyrna) we opted for this beach in Brooklyn figuring that we could better avoid traffic with more options of how to get back in the city. This beach is definitely not great... there are pieces of glass so if you take children you'll have to be very careful - That said, if you walk about 1/2 of a mile from the entrance of the beach... it gets much better and cleaner. There are ATV's and people on this beach - but they are fishing/swimming etc and even on Labor Day 2014 there were very few people... maybe 30 -40 groups total... definitely not overwhelming. The beach did not small of sewage but there is a fair amount of seaweed and debris in the water... its not clean - but our white samoyed puppy didn't seem to mind! She dug in the sand with her pitbull buddy that joined us and had a lovely time running and playing freely off leash all day! If you have the ability to visit another beach I'm sure there are better options, but given the circumstances we were very happy with our visit to this beach. Make sure to bring everything you need as there are no services whatsoever... Enjoy!!

    THE WORST

This beach is fine, if you don't mind dodging shards of glass, trash, sewer smell and the random nudist. It's FILTHY and a health hazard!
