Not fenced and creek is a hazard

It is a nice dog park with plenty of space to swim however the river gets really deep and can flow really fast. There is no fence past the entrance and there are mini trails leading to the river that a dog could easily get lost in. There is a little trail near the back of the park which has more places to swim but the trail there can have snakes so just beware. The way to get into the park can be kind of confusing but you have to park in a small parking lot and then walk across the bridge. There are three ways to go and if you turn right that leads to the dog park.

    Nice location and…

This park is located in a nice location with an option of double gate or single gate openings. My concerns were that the park has a fast flowing river next to it without a fence on that side. the field space was totally open and it was super easy for me to lose track of my pup and not be able to call her back to me. My pup greatly appreciated the very large open space,I didn’t as much.

    BEWARE! DANGEROUS

Jacob's Island dog park is NOT fenced in at all and dogs have complete access to a fast-flowing river that my dog died in. I have also heard that just before my dog died, falling through ice, playing with another dog, another dog was attacked and killed at this dog park. This dog park IS NOT safe whatsoever and you are dealing with a lot of homeless, drug addicts living in and around that riverfront. I DO NOT recommend this dog park. Go to Fort Missoula Dog Park where you have 2 huge all-fenced-in dog parks. I wish I had known this dog park existed before my dog was killed innocently playing with another. Please. Do not go to Jacob's Island Dog Park

    Great Location

we loved this park, it’s fenced in down to the water and there’s plenty of space. The dogs can swim in the river. one of the best dog parks we’ve been to

    Dog paradise

Lots of fun trails and water for the dogs to frolick in! Only problem is the river adjacent to the park has a super swift current-- not safe for poor swimmers. Otherwise our pup had a fun time!

    Doggy disney

My daughter and I took our mutt maybel and we had a great time. All of the dog were friendly and under control. Our dog is a rescue so we kept her on a long leash but had no problems. Our pup had so much fun running through the creeks, taking a dip in the river and following the many trails. We loved this park and will be back. It is a great off leash park, our rescue dog is not ready to be off leash but she had fun anyway! We did too.

    Not Safe, Overcrowded

Jacob's Island dog park is beautiful, no doubt about it. But it's not actually fenced - two sides of it are open, one bordering a very steep irrigation ditch and one bordering the Clark Fork River (the fence also only goes to the tree line, so the beach is completely unfenced). My dog has multiple times gotten in to swim and floated too far down, outside of the park. Combine that with the fact that the Clark Fork's current is way too strong for most dogs except in high summer, and the city animal control tickets first and asks questions later, I never take my dog there. Plus, there are nearly 35,000 dogs in Missoula and 1 off leash park. You do the math on the overcrowding there.

    Great dog park

I am so glad I found out about this dog park. It was a little hard to find especially since I'm from out of town. It would have been better if there had been an area for small dogs to get away from the bigger dogs but otherwise it is a great place to take a dog for a good off leash romp and a chance for interacting with other dogs. My dog especially liked being able to get to the river to play in the water. I sure wish more towns had dog parks like this one.

Perfect spot for the adventure dog.

We drove from Great Falls for the day, and our dog had been in the car for the ride. Finding the park was necessary to get her out and run around. It was really difficult for my husband to find without previous knowledge of the area. The island has two entrances - one behind the Chamber of Commerce, the other behind the University's recreational fields. The latter one has parking. It was a good little stop for our dog, and we will use it again, for sure. While it doesn't have anything fancy as far as play structures, it has a small creek in the back that the dogs can run through without worry of being rushed off in the river. And, it was busy enough that our dog had others to play with. Overall a good time for our pup, and we will be back.

**The fence does not go all the way down to the river, and a smart dog will get out if left to let her figure that out. We were followed out of the park by a clever boxer who clearly had this secret figured out.

    Dog Nirvana

This is a great park. Lots of room to run, trees, some woodsy areas, even a box of sticks by the door. It has clean access to a stream/river. It is a bit hard to find for an out of towner, but all in all, a lovely park.
