Nice beach for dogs- no shade for humans

Although the beach and swim area is good for the dogs, there is no shade on a hot summer day. There are two picnic tables to put toys and leashes on. The tables are rustic and very weather beaten. Grass was mowed and the beach had sand on the main part, but the rest was muddy. My two Labs loved the water and swam until they we’re exhausted. Bring a toy if your dog likes to fetch as there are no trees nearby to snag a branch. We took a picnic lunch and could not find any picnic tables away from the beach, very disappointing. The beach area is fenced in, which is very nice - make sure the gates are both closed. The inside gate needs a better latch. Overall, the dogs loved it. Drove a couple hours to get here and should have stayed in a motel.

A Good Park But Go When It's Cool or Shady Outside

The dog park at Salt Fork State Park is nice. It's about 75 yards by 75 yards square (that's a really rough approximation) with a U section coming into it from the lake. Sydney, my Black Lab, loves it. There is plenty of room to run and a lot of water access for her to swim and play fetch with her training buoy. It has a double gate, a waste disposal area, and a picnic table for the humans to rest their feet. About 100 yards away is a very large beach for people with a main building with bathrooms, changing area, and a snack bar in the summer. There are also a few shelters for picnics and a water pump. My knock on this dog park is that there is NO shade. If it is a mild day that's not a problem. However, during the heat of summer it would be best to bring your dog in the evening when it starts to cool down and you will get some shade after the sun dips below the adjacent hill. It would also be nice if there was a water pump at the dog park to give Syd and myself a fresh drink of water. So my tips are go when it's cool or in the evening and pack a beverage or be prepared to walk to the pump at the shelter.

    Runaways

This is a nice lake, I have taken my dogs a few times. Only warning, the fence has two areas where dogs can escape. Learned firsthand

    Love this park

Large enclosed grassy area for dogs to play with access to Salt Fork Lake so dogs can swim and splash if they like. Parking readily available. Some bench seating provided as well. Gorgeous view. We tend to walk some of the many surrounding trails and then go to the beach to play and cool off.
