Wonderful Time For All

I have attended this event from its first year. Words cannot express the excellent job the Loreal Staff do to make Your Dog Is Worth It Too Day and incredible event for both humans and their canine companions. This event has grown in size and shape every year to become the premier dog event in New Jersey. I hope to see even more dogs and more people again there this year. Lets all not forget the wonderful cause the event works toward as well. See you in August.

First off, I have to say that I love the idea behind this event. It's a great way for dogs and their owners to get out and socialize with each other. My dog and I would have loved to stay if the event wasn't on blacktop. The temperature that day was well over 90 degrees Fahrenheit. How hot was the blacktop?
My husband and I were walking towards the event and saw a dog clearly struggling to walk on the sizzling blacktop. It was so hot that the tar on the side of the road was melted and getting stuck to people's shoes. The air temperature that day was over 90 degrees Fahrenheit. Tar's melting point is over 120 degrees Fahrenheit. I couldn't even imagine taking off my sandals and walking barefoot on that blacktop.
When we arrived at the actual entrance to the event, our worst fears were realized when we saw that the entire event was taking place in a parking lot with very little grass or anything else for the dogs to escape the scorching pavement. Within minutes of arriving we were already looking for some grass for our dogs. We found a small patch of grass and discussed on whether or not we should stay. A woman approached us when she heard us comment about the hot pavement. She was trying to warn all dog owners about the danger their dog's paws were being subjected to. Several people immediately picked up their dogs after hearing the warning. Not everyone has a small dog that they can pick up. One owner had their dog sit on the pavement and it let out a horrid cry in pain as it literally burned it's behind.
After no more than 10 minutes watching all the poor dogs trying desperately to keep their paws in the air as long as possible, we quickly decided to leave. As we were heading back via all the shade and grass we could possibly find, we warned others of the situation, with the hope of sparing their beloved pets from scalded paws.
Again, I wish to take nothing away from the intentions behind this event and I wholeheartedly hope that they plan for another event next year. I applaud their thoughtfulness for this event and think it is a wonderful idea. I simply implore and beg they consider a more animal friendly venue next time, so that everyone with both two legs and four, can comfortably enjoy the outing and activities.
