Description

Jacksonville’s Shelter Pets by Year End Could Have a Life Saving Piece of Equipment JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – December 1, 2014 – The JED Fund, a newly formed non-profit based in Jacksonville is excited to announce a matching campaign up to $32,000 for a much needed x-ray machine for Jacksonville’s Animal Care and Protective Services (ACPS). Thanks to an anonymous donor, this life saving piece of equipment can in fact be purchased by the end of the year at a discounted cost of $64,000. This donor is hoping half can be raised in December, during the campaign drive. If 1,600 people gave $20 this holiday season this goal can be achieved. Last fiscal year ACPS had 11,800 dogs and cats enter, with several in medical distress and in need of an x-ray to determine the extent of injuries. Currently, many of these injured dogs and cats are taken to partner organizations, which mean travel and staff time, not to mention the stress on animals in need of urgent care. “As Jacksonville strives to maintain a no-kill status, we must continue to seek opportunities to save even more lives. Having an x-ray machine in-house will create better efficiencies and allow us to perform life-saving surgeries in less time. Currently, there are no funds in our budget to pay for this expenditure,” says Nikki Harris, Division Chief of ACPS. “I am always overwhelmed by the support of the community when it comes to animal welfare. This is such a generous gift. We are of course always happy to assist ACPS but to have this type of technology in their facility can save even more lives,” said Rick DuCharme, Founder and Executive Director of First Coast No More Homeless Pets. ### The JED Fund is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization who’s mission is to offer financial support to animal welfare organizations who work diligently to save the lives of homeless dogs and cats. Each dollar raised will directly benefit animals in carefully selected facilities doing this life saving work.
