Washington Metro DachtoberFest

The Washington Metro DachtoberFest, the largest Dachshund Festival in the Mid-Atlantic Region, is held the first Saturday in October ever year at the e-ventplex, Home of the Great Frederick Fair in Frederick, Maryland. It continues the treasured tradition of bringing dachshund lovers together to enjoy a day of family-oriented doxie fun.? The Fest has attracts over 1500 dog lovers and over 600 dachshunds and dachshund wanabes annually. Fest goers look forward to the incredible spectical of hundreds of smooth, wire and long haired dachshunds, of all sizes, shapes, colors and patterns. Visitors of The Fest enjoy over 30 vendors, many selling dachshund wares, speciality veterinary service vendors, Weiner Races, the Dachshund Strut Costume Parade and Contest, and it's signature event, the Woofminster Dog Show where any dog can be a champion. Dachshund enthusists also enjoy the WMDF Ask the Expert Mini Forum during The Fest. Our guest speakers include area veterinary and behavioral specialists who will address dachshund health issues. In the past our guest speakers touched on intervertebral disc disease (IVDD), complete with discussions and demos on proactive preemptive care and prevention, various treatments including a conservative crate rest and meds, alternative/holistic, and surgery. General health issues common to all dachshunds, including weight management and oral hygiene, and behavior and training issues are topics our guest speakers have covered the the past.
