AUGUSTA, MISSOURI – Mount Pleasant Estates will host a special day at the winery for winery-goers and their four-legged pets. The Dog Days of Summer event will take place at the winery from 1-4pm on Saturday, August 13th (rain or shine). Dogs of all breeds and sizes are welcome to join their owners for the festivities. A $5 suggested cash donation or pet food donation will be accepted for the Bi-State Pet Food Pantry. Here is the Bi-State Pet Food Pantry’s Wish List: • Gift cards (any amount) to PetSmart, PetCo, Target, and Wal-Mart • Any size bags of dry dog food, opened or unopened (See drop-off locations here) • Any size bags of dry cat food, opened or unopened • Canned dog food, unopened • Canned cat food, unopened • Dog or cat treats, unopened or opened • Cat litter, unopened or opened • Free or cheap storage for pantry Please note: Pet food should have some sort of meat as the FIRST ingredient. We ask that people not donate food with corn as the first ingredient as it is harder on animals’ stomachs. The winery has invited numerous local pet vendors to show off their products and services. Live music will take place from 2-5pm on the upper patio from Hudson and Friends (formerly Hudson and the HoodDoo Cats). Dogs are welcome to roam around the grounds while on leashes to investigate what each vendor has to offer, soak up sun, or cool off in the air-conditioned Crush Lounge. Mount Pleasant will also host a dog costume contest. This year’s theme will be “Summer Fun!” The owner of the winning dog will receive a free lunch in the Appellation Café and a gift certificate towards a bottle of wine. Enter your pet upon arrival. Winners will be selected by Mount Pleasant Winery judges and announced at 3pm. Cyan Art Studios from Cottleville, MO will be hosting a painting class which allows attendees to create a custom portrait of their pet. A $45 registration fee includes all supplies and instruction to complete your portrait of your pet “fur baby.” http://cyanartstudios.com/ Two food trucks will be at the winery’s pet event, one for people and the other for the dogs. The Treats Unleashed Pet Food Truck, a family-owned scratch pet bakery, will have a selection of freshest treats and cakes as well as holistic foods and toys made in the USA. Sia’s Italian Ice food truck will give the humans a nice cold treat to cool off with or pair with their wine. They take fruit, purified water and a little sugar to create unique all natural products that is sure to please! Pet Adoption and Rescue agencies will also be on-site with any dogs they may have looking for their forever homes. Open Door Animal Sanctuary, Heartland Humane Society of MO, St Louis English Bulldog Rescue and Five Acres Animal Shelter will be there to educate and answer any questions guests may have about pet adoption and fostering. We have some amazing local pet stores, groomers, and kennels participating this year. Jamie Heberlein and her talented pup, Meeka from WestInn Kennels will be performing trick demonstrations throughout the afternoon as well as promoting the positive benefits of trick training. WestInn Kennels will also be offering free nail trimmings to all dogs. Dogville Grooming will be raffling off a Good Pampering Gift Basket. Bark2Basics and Dylan’s Pet Supply will be selling unique and fun pet supplies and toys to keep the dogs entertained. Mount Pleasant Estates in located in the heart of Augusta, Missouri and opens at 11am daily. Wine Tasting is available for $10 per person and included 5 – 2 ounce pours and a souvenir wine glass. Tours are available at Noon and 1pm on Saturdays and Sundays. The Appellation Café serves food from 11am to 4pm Thursday through Monday. Reserved seating on the upper patio is available for $5 per person. Call 636-482-9463 to make reservations. All other seating is on a first come, first serve basis.
