Healthy Pet, Healthy You

Capital BlueCross, in partnership with the Humane Society of the Harrisburg Area, is thrilled to announce our 3rd annual Healthy Pet, Healthy You scheduled for Saturday, October 5, 2013, from 10 am to 3 pm. This year's event will again be held on the grounds of Capital BlueCross, 2500 Elmerton Avenue, Harrisburg. Healthy Pet, Healthy You is a free community education event focused on healthy living – for people and pets. At last year’s event, more than 2,000 local residents and some 500 pets enjoyed a day of learning and fun exercise! This year’s event will include an action-packed day filled with information and activities to help keep family members (both two-legged and four-legged ones) healthy and living well. Various community organizations will be on hand to provide information on an array of health-related topics. Health screenings and flu shots will be available as well as fitness demonstrations and kid-friendly activities such as face painting and crafts. We'll also be having a community Zumba Fitness party at noon. In addition, local merchants will be showcasing home grown produce and delicious food. For our pets, we’re planning to have canine demonstrations, low-cost pet vaccines, a microchip clinic and pet-friendly vendors. Dogs will also be able to obtain their Canine Good Citizenship certification. All guests are encouraged to participate in the Health Walk and Pet Parade at 1 p.m. ($5 participant fee benefits the Humane Society). WHTM-27 anchor, Alicia Richards and her dog, Lily, will again be serving as the Grand Marshall of the walk and parade. In the spirit of the season, we also will be having a pet costume contest at 1:30 pm.
