Soft sided carriers

Hi, I am traveling west jet from vancouver to wpg. I have a Havenese that is 11 pounds. I bought a Sherpa soft sided carrier Medium. The measurements are a little bigger than the reccomended. I phoned west jet a few different times and get different answers. One girl said that as long as the carrier squishes down they are pretty lenient with the measurements.
Any one ever have any problems with west jet??
