Unacommpanied Dog from US to Germany

Do you have to use a broker to get through customs? Any thoughts/tricks on transporting my dog as cargo? Thanks

I also am trying to arrange to have my unaccompanied dog sent from US to Germany. Anyone have any input on the above post?
