1. They were nice
by Jennifer of Moorpark, CA
There are some really nice things about this motel. The Silverton Train goes right by (very cool). The staff is exceptionally nice. Breakfast is included in the price. The pool has nice showers. Every room has a fireplace! All rooms are 2-story with a loft bedroom. There was a refridgerator and microwave and cable TV. The place is obviously well kept, even though it has got to be near to 30 years old.
The downside for us was that, if you bring your dog (which is why we chose to stay), they give you a smoking room... very stinky! They don't charge extra for the animals and will accept up to 2 in each room. Our room was also probably inhabited by visiting hunters at one time, if you judge by the shotgun blast dents in the door. This didn't worry us. We just thought it was an interesting quirk. The room appeared to be clean, but it was hard to judge because the mixture of air freshener and smoke was quite overwhelming. It was cold out, but we left the door open as much as possible. The heater worked great to get the room back to a bearable temperature. We went to the local market and bought a scented candle and a log for the fireplace. This helped a lot.
The Iron Horse Inn was neither the best or worst place we've stayed. I'm sure that if we hadn't had a smoking room, we would have actually enjoyed its quirkyness as a motel. They are very pet friendly. If you are not expecting a lot, you'll probably enjoy your stay.
2. Extra Friendly
by Beverly of Carp Lake, MI
Everything #1 writer wrote is true except we were able to get a smoke free room. Extra friendly toward pets.
