We had a great stay to the Redding Red Lion! After a long day of driving, we were pleased by an efficient check-in process and lower-than-normal pet fee ($20/2 dogs). This place is huge! Also, the easy access to the room via glass sliding door made bringing the dogs in and out a snap. Quick, hearty breakfast was included in our room rate. We would definitely stay here again.

Comfy bed, dreamy pillows, clean room, great bathroom, very quiet. We would however suggest you seek breakfast off property. The room service breakfast we paid for (wasn’t included with lodging) was not-totally-cooked breakfast potatoes, dry flavorless scrambled egg and some link sausage with dry stale toast.

We travel up and down the I-5 once or twice a year, and we always stop for a night in Redding. We have stayed at several different hotels near the freeway and all have their good and bad aspects. We like the Red Lion on Hilltop because the ground floor rooms have patio doors that give direct access to the rooms from the parking lot, courtyard, or pool area. This is very convenient for dog access.
Our room this time opened on to the parking lot and we parked right outside, which made loading and unloading very easy. However, rooms opening out on the courtyard or pool are more pleasant. The room itself was quite dated and our patio door had come off its track, so did not open or close properly. This was symptomatic of a general need for updating the rooms. Our room was also quite small. I know that the hotel is being renovated, and hopefully the rooms will have been upgraded before we pass this way again.
Another disadvantage of this hotel is that there is no place to walk dogs nearby and no dedicated pet area on the property. We drove over to the Turtle Bay Open Space to walk our dog in the evening and morning. On the positive side, the staff were welcoming and the breakfast was good. Overall, I do recommend the hotel, but next time we will request a ground floor room that has been updated.

All dog rooms have sliders going straight outside. If your on the poolside it is a large Grassy area. They have a great restaurant and bar.

The Red Lion was a fine stop for us and our Rhodesian Ridgeback. A nice courtyard green where we could walk him. Our dog-friendly room was on ground level and we were able to park very close.

This hotel was sufficient for one night. We received a ground floor room that opened to the parking lot. on the positive side we could park right outside our room so it was easy to load and unload. A poolside room would have been much better and would have felt safer. Room service was a plus. Rooms are old/dated.

'Dog rooms' have no carpet just tile floors - not a criticism, just an observation. Dog rooms are also groundfloor and have the sliding glass door to the central grass area (couldn't bring myself to letting the dogs poop there, though) We took our dogs to the neighboring hotels designated dog area. Pet fees. No included 'free' breakfast but the daily breakfast buffet was GREAT and reasonably priced.

We got in super late and the front desk staff were amazing we paid the 15 bucks for the pets and it was well worth it. We had a pool facing room that lead right into grass for the dogs to go on through a sliding door! They were allowed to come for breakfast and sit at the table with us as long as it was on an outside row table! We loved it here!
