    Do not recommend

Highly unprofessional. I had made plans to send two dogs to training with [owner] back in November. He had to switch the original drop off date due to another dog he had boarded which was okay. I then had to reschedule because my dog had a small injury. I dropped off both of my dogs on November 26th. I would like to point out that I have been just as accommodating to him as he had been to us. On November 27th [owner] sent me a text message stating "If any issues cause them to go home, you do not lose your money, we will switch to visits until they are ready". He called me stating that one of the dogs was struggling with anxiety and he thought she would do better with home visits. I was fine with picking her up due to the fact that she was not really in need of training, I only sent her to keep our other dog company. On December 1st I lost my longtime partner. I reached out to [owner] asking if we could reschedule our second dogs training so that I could have her with me during a time of grieving. He said that was fine and that we would switch to home visits or reboard when the weather broke. I reached out to him today because the weather is mild and will be for the next week. He stated he no longer could honor his previous texts and it would be an additional $500/week in order to reboard. I then mentioned the home visits and asked if he would still be able to honor them if I moved (locally) he told me a home visit means I bring them to him. By definition that's not what a home visit is. When I mentioned that I did not like the tone of the conversation he threatened me with legal action if I left a review with my experience. I suggest that he read up on the consumer review fairness act that was passed in 2016. The Consumer Review Fairness Act of 2016 is a federal consumer protection statute banning the use of gag clauses in non-negotiable consumer form contracts. Be leary of businesses that hide their reviews.

    Huge mistake.

In summary, this dog training service was a huge mistake for us.

We reached out in May after our dog starting having fights with his friends. Jason evaluated the behavior and said that he could do “behavior modification” training to stop this. We were desperate for a solution so a high rate felt worth while. It took two full months to get him scheduled. We drove out dog over an hour to Jason’s house and were sent away for an additional two weeks due to a “scheduling error.” Within a week of our dog, Kirby, being at Jason’s, we were called to pick him up with a horrible cough. Suspected kennel cough by out vet, our dog was vaccinated… we were told most likely there was other dogs at the facility not vaccinated. No proof of vet care was required prior to drop off. Kirby was feeling better by the end of the week. We spent a full month with multiple contact attempts to reschedule. Phone calls were ignored.

Jason refuses to stand behind his services. We will not be sending our dog back the facility with no reliability in communication. After thorough attempts to describe our poor experience by both my husband and I, we were refused a refund and hung up on.

Payment for services is prior to scheduling and required on a non-secured online method. I was unable to report a claim for no services.

    Excellent

I needed behavior training for my dog Jack. He would bark at everyone, jumping on the furniture. After he ruined my wife’s new couch I knew I needed help with his behavior. After doing my research I decided on Dayton Dog Trainer. I was not taking Jack to one of these walking classes with other people. I wanted someone to focus on Jack so I know I am getting what I asked for. I met the owner and knew he knew what he was doing. I loved the fact Jack was going to be the center of their focus. He was going to be trained in a real life environment. I recommended Dayton Dog Trainer to my family and friends to go there for their training needs. I especially love the fact that in the future I have someone that Jack can go to if me and my family go on a vacation. Its like having an extended family for Jack.

    PERFECTION

When I purchased my pup, I wanted to have him trained on and off leash, so I started out with a local trainer, close to home but even still, the basic on leash obedience wasn't all that strong after spending a lot of money and attending several classes.

So I started to look online for a trainer who offered more and I wanted someone who didn't use treats. I found Dayton Dog Trainer and the thing I liked about them was that they didn't use treats, they offered the option to board the dog during training and I found that they trained the dog owner once the dog's training was complete. I have family in Dayton so I ended up signing up for a 2 week board and train with Dayton Dog Trainer and was able to schedule the training during the couple of weeks I was in town visiting family.

DDT sent a trainer out to my parents home to evaluate my dog before I signed up and I took their recommendations for the 2 week board and train. While my dog was with the trainer, I was able to stay in contact with the trainer and receive updates any time I called or texted him.

While picking up my dog, I was provided the instructions I needed to bring my dog back home as well as instructions on how to start working with my dog. Without walking through the entire process, I was very impressed at how well my dog responded to my commands. I ended up attending a couple more "handler" sessions before I left to come back home, to train me and things only got better. The training I did locally did not even compare to the training I went through at Dayton Dog Trainer. These guys broke everything down and taught me a tremendous amount about my dog and how to understand his body language.

I have to say, that these guys have it together. I will be attending off leash training next summer when I am back up that way. Those guys provide a load of information but make it easy to learn.

If you want your dog trained right you are going to want to go to Dayton Dog Trainer. Maybe I will see you there if you go through next summer.

    Great Training and Follow-up

Thank You DDT!! What I appreciated most by the end of the training was that totally up front candid approach that I kind of resented in the beginning, at no time did I ever feel DDT was trying to appease me, sell me on something, and quite frankly they did not seem to take "the customer is always right" approach. I could not figure that part out until much later in the training when it was clear the "customer" was my dog, not me. That's just what DDT did, the right thing for my dog! If you are not ready to reflect on how you may be a part of the problem in your dogs training, then DDT may not be the company for you, but if you suck up the upfront, honest, candor they provide...you might just find your inner ALPHA Dog. If you are thinking of using DDT, I would highly recommend them to anyone invested in their dog's training, but if your idea of customer service, is that you are always right, this may not be the company for you. If you want your dog to be treated right and trained in a respectful manner trust them to do their job and your dog will be treated to the best training it could have!! Thank you again DDT...you taught us all so much and our dog is happy, healthy and much better balanced. A few tips to make the most of your experience should you decide to choose DDT. 1. Know they will be candid with you, you may not like what they say, but it will be honest. 2. You do not have to sign the contact with them, if you do not like what it says, but if you do, read it so you know what to expect. 3. Follow the recommendations of DDT, you are paying them to help your pet. 4. Call and confirm and expect there might be changes, be flexible, have a back of plan so if your time does need to be rescheduled, so you don't feel like your time is wasted. Just a quick phone call to say I am confirming our time, or do we need to reschedule? This is about your dogs time with the trainer. 5. Don't set overly high expectations for your dog. DDT is not kidding when they say your dog will rebel to maintain status as the ALPHA DOG, unless you consistently work with the dog as instructed, you will just throw your money away. Participate in your dogs training, don't expect the trainer to do all the training for you, this journey is as much about training you as your dog!

    Highly Recommend

This dog training company was amazing. My dog had some pretty major behavior issues such as jumping on everyone when they came in the door, pulling me down the sidewalk while trying to walk my dog and started to nip and bite at people if they moved too quickly. I was afraid I was going to have to re-home my dog, but after speaking with Dayton Dog Trainer on the phone, they reassured me that I wouldn't have to do that. When the trainer came out to do the evaluation, he was very professional and explained in detail what was going on and why it was going on. The part I liked, was the blunt honesty. They weren't telling me what I wanted to hear, but instead, told me what I needed to hear. I did realize after speaking with the trainer, that part of the problem was me and was assured that not only would my dog get the training he needed, but I too would get the training I needed.

Once the training was complete and I picked up my dog, I was provided a lesson on how to properly command and correct my dog and was also provided 3 follow up visits on further training for me as the owner. I have to say, these people are great at what they do and their handler instruction was very in-depth and informative. They made sure I had everything down, before the training was over.

My dog is now doing very well. He listens so much better and there is no more behavior problems with obedience or the nipping. Again, I highly recommend this dog trainer to anyone wanting some really great training for their dog and themselves. The training is practical, and the worked around my work schedule. I don't have to use treats like most places teach and my training was one on one.
