Midwest Airlines Pet Policy

Carry-On Pet Policy:

Midwest Airlines no longer permits small pets to travel in the passenger cabins of its aircraft.

Checked Bagage/Cargo Policy:

Midwest Airlines does permit domestic dogs and cats to travel in the temperature-controlled and pressurized compartment below the cockpit of the aircraft, separated from baggage and other cargo. The fee for your pet to travel below the cockpit is $150 each way. Pets traveling in this manner are not counted as part of your checked baggage allowance. Upon check-in, you must present a veterinarian health certificate that includes current vaccination records and is dated within 10 days of travel. Pets traveling below the cockpit cannot be accepted at curbside check-in.

Carrier Guidelines:

When traveling under the cockpit, pets must be placed in airline-approved plastic kennels, not exceeding the dimensions of 40" long x 27" wide x 30" high. Wood and metal kennels are not permitted.

Pet Reservations:

You must call Midwest Airlines in advance to arrange for your pet's travel. Availability is on a first come, first served basis. Just call 1-800-452-2022 to speak with a representative who will assist you with booking travel for you and your pet. The pet fee is paid at the ticket counter upon check-in.

GREAT for service animals though!
LisaDawn in Olathe, KS
Service animals still fly inside the passenger cabin and the flight attendants are awesome ... they have actually apologized to me that more animals are not allowed on board.

The best for pet travel!
Emily in Dallas
First, Midwest has a program that earns your pet a free round trip for every three paid round trips. Second, they have one of the best (it not the best) pet safety records with the FAA. Third, Midwest pays attention to the little things, like letting you know your pet is safely on board before take off. They attach a tag to the kennel, and when the kennel is loaded, they tear off half of the tag and bring it to you in the cabin. It really puts my mind at ease knowing they're definitely on the plane and not being left behind! My two dogs always come off the plane perfectly contented! Thanks, Midwest!

Executive status in 2009; never again in 2010!!
Vicki in Boston
After being a loyal customer to Midwest Airlines, I will never fly with them again! I had booked my flights over the holidays and specifically booked my dog to travel in cabin as he has on numerous occasions. The travel to my destination was without problems, but on my return trip, I was told that my dog could not fly with me in cabin after checking into my flight and initiating the boarding process. I have never felt so uncomfortable traveling on any airline. I never received any notification of their pet in cabin policy change despite regularly flying with my dog on Midwest airlines. To make matters worse, I have accumulated enough trips for a free round trip for my dog, but will not be able to use it thanks to their discontinuation of the program. I was Executive status in 2009, but will never fly them again starting in 2010!

Midwest is NO longer PET FRIENDLY
Sally in Milwaukee, WI
I booked my flight out to LAX for travel in December 2009 and it never dawned on me that Midwest would no longer be pet friendly. I didn't realize the in-cabin pet program had been canceled and all pets are now only to be flown below cabin. This new policy has made me look for alternative airlines and cancelled my travel with Midwest. I will no longer be using Midwest for regular flights since it is important for me to have my dog travel with me in the cabin. Midwest is no longer pet friendly and I would advise looking for alternative travel arrangements.

New Policy is no longer pet friendly
Dawn in Washington, DC
I had reserved a space for my dog IN-CABIN of the Christmas holiday 2009 back in July. I didn't realize the in-cabin pet program had been canceled and all pets are now only to be flow below cabin. This new policy saddens me deeply because my family resides in Milwaukee and I have always flown Midwest to and from DC (several times a year) because it is a direct flight, and up until now I was able to bring my dog. I will no longer be using Midwest for regular flights; I will have to find another airline that accommodates my dog in-cabin.
