We had our dog in a stroller

we had our Frenchie in a stroller. we DID have to carry the stroller up the stairs and down the stairs but we are used to doing it. She was quiet the whole time. I feel like it was 2 hours or more?!? we did it in October and it was chilly in there so she was snuggled in her blanket. it was so fun to be able to take her along. thanks so much!

Very dog friendly, but be careful of heat

the facility is very dog friendly! we went on a history tour that was fascinating for us, and the dogs were more than welcome. however, the buildings got very stuffy on a 75 degree day. our long hair dogs struggled with the temperature inside more than we expected given the outside weather.

We took our two 12-pound dogs on the 90-minute history tour with guide, Pip (who was very knowledgeable), and it was great. The property is HUGE and there is a lot to see and learn about - we even contemplated staying longer to take one of their other tours when we were finished with the history one. The tour went through a few different buildings and outside areas so it was good for the pups to have an outdoor break. There are lots of dark spaces and dark, narrow stairwells so be sure your dog would be OK in that kind of environment. They had fun sniffing all around and we enjoyed the unique experience.

    Dog Friendly For Sure

everyone was so nice to our dog and included her in the relevance of the tour. clean, safe spaces for the pup to walk without concern. definitely do this tour and take the longest tour. so much cool info.

    Pretty cool place!

I admit I first learned about this place from ghost hunters. Then wound up marrying a guy who decided to start a nonprofit to raise awareness and to save and repurpose old Kirkbride asylums. He was familiar with this one and has been here and mentioned that he was pretty sure they were ok with dogs. We have 2 Weimaraner that are still sort of in the wild puppy stage (1 year old) so we knew they might be a little tricky to deal with. Thankfully it was ok and everyone fawned over them. One of my dogs is afraid of new people and a little reactive so we made sure to muzzle him just in case. The asylum is full of dark spaces, stairwells, and corridors that can be frightening for some dogs. Also since you’re groups are with multiple people you need to be mindful that your dog isn’t in anyone’s way in all those tighter places. Just be polite to others and make sure your dog is well behaved so they don’t ruin anyone else’s experience.

    Fascinating and Dog-Friendly Tours

We were delighted to receive a welcome greeting for our dog upon our arrival at TALA. The staff are super nice and knowledgeable, and the whole place is fascinating and beautiful in its decrepit way — and thoroughly creepy. Our dog was curious and also doted on throughout the tour. I highly recommend visiting.

This location is dog friendly. It was interesting exploring with Scrappy my chihuahua. He was very well behaved and for the most part enjoyed the tour. He did react however in 2 separate locations along the tour route as if he was frightened, which gave me pause and made me wonder if he could sense more than I.

    Bring your camera

What an interesting stop on our trip to WV. We chose a daytime tour that was private. Our tour was mixed with history and ghosts of all 4 floors. We took tons of photos which resulted in orbs, cloudy figures, and some photos that just seemed odd. It wasn't very scary in the daylight. I definitely enjoyed learning about the asylum.

    Needed more time!

Sarah our tour guide was brilliant. She knows her facts and helped us along to creepy old building! I recommend doing the 4 floor tour, there are many cool things to see! I am only sad that I did not have time to do the haunted tour. The daytime tour was scary, I can only imagine what the night time tour is like. They also allow small dogs that can be carried or ride. Word to the wise , there is no elevator!
