Avila Beach

The last beach near the point at Avila Beach has a lot of dogs that are off-leash; although it's posted however they are not allowed between 10am-5pm. The beach is bordered by rocks jutting out into the water and a rocky cliff up to the street, so it's a natural sort of fence. There are doggie bags available for use. Parking is along the road and access is free. Visit Website

Olde Port Beach (2 miles west of Avila Beach)

The dog-friendly beach is about 2 miles west of the main Avila Beach. Head towards San Luis Bay Inn and the bridge and it'll be on your left. Dogs run free and usually chasing balls. Our first doggy beach experience and it was great. Our little girl stood out (white and clean and on a leash) while others ran around her doing their thing. She just wanted to explore and is afraid of the water. Luckily, it was low tide, so not loud. Some dogs came up to greet her, but not too many. One super large dog came by and scared her (and her owner), but their owner was close by and apologized. My only knock is there are so many larger dogs off leash, so it's scary for us newbies. Otherwise, a great place for dogs to run freely.

    Best Dog Beach Ever!

We had so much fun here. Everyone was very friendly. We were able to let the dog off leash to run in the water and chase her ball. She was so happy! Beautiful place with great people and their dogs! The dog beach is north of Avila beach. You do not need to park in the "pay for parking" public lot. Just drive up past the pier and you will come to the dog beach. Plenty of free parking.

    so much fun

We had a great time here on a Sunday from 11 to 1. Lots of friendly dogs and people. The address listed is not correct, the beach is past that. When you get to the beaches drive past the bridge and you'll see all the doggies.

best dog beach in SLO county

My dog loooves to run at "Poly" beach where the firepits are located (Cal Poly students party there @ night). People and pets are generally well behaved. Early morning and late afternoon is best.
