Fall Creek Falls State Park is a pet-friendly destination in Pikeville, TN. Fido is welcome to tag along at one of the state's largest and most visited state parks. Your leashed pup is welcome to explore the trails with you and admire the cascades, gorges, waterfalls, streams and greenery. Fall Creek Falls stands at 256 feet, making this one of the highest waterfalls in the eastern United States.

My 2 year old golden retriever and I went hiking for the first time. We started with the 3 mile loop on Paw Paw trail, which turned into a 2 hour trip because we kept detouring on the overlooks. After Paw paw trail, we parked near Camp #2 and did the 4.2 mile Gilbert Gaul trail. There, we saw 6 large deers over 3 sitings. Hold on to your dogs! Mine wanted to run like a deer after them. It was a little confusing when we approached the cabins and the trail seemed to disappear a little, and took a wrong turn there. Overall, lots of fun!

I thought we plucked off all the ticks in TN, but even with washing all the bedding and clothes, I am waking up with a tick on my face at 4am. The heart worm and flea medication (Trifexis) will interact with some flea medications so be sure to talk to your veterinarian first about flea medications and preventive flea treatment before you visit.
Gilbert Gaul trail The park staff told us to go counter clockwise, but i think we were supposed to go clockwise because of the way it slowly ascends. Going clockwise would have followed the signs to the trails more easily. However, at the beginning you have the option of going either right (counter clockwise) or to the left (clockwise).
Signs on Paw paw trail Cane Creek gorge - accessible by the 70 degree descent down Cable Trail. Not dog friendly. Make sure you look at the map of the overlooks. By the time you add the 1 mile overlooks, your 2.9 mile paw paw trail is more like 5 miles round trip, and will be closer to a 2 hr trail.
Beware of ticks at Fall Creek Falls. My dog and I both had ticks when we got back. Even though i had treated my clothes with Permethrin, and sprayed myself with 20% piccardin, the ticks managed to get embedded in my skin where clothes were covering my skin (top of thighs, buttocks), and I had to nearly go to my doctor’s to pry off these ticks. It was my first time dealing with ticks.
