Crowded, Small area, Poorly socialized dogs

I was reluctant to try this park bc we had been told by more than three different people that their dogs had been attacked when they went here, but it's the only actual dog park in Uptown according to this website so unless you want to get a membership at City Bark I'm not sure what else you can do. I pulled up about a month ago for the first time. There were over 30 dogs in this area that looked smaller than some abandoned lots in the city so I decided to try again on a less busy day. Also, the lot is mostly dirt so be prepared to give your dog a bath if yours likes to roll around. We went for the first time yesterday and there were probably 15-20 dogs. Within about 15 mins we witnessed a pitbull and another small-medium sized dog attacking each other, one of them we saw was cut up pretty badly and bleeding from it's muzzle afterwards. We got our dog and left immediately. This was early afternoon on a random Saturday so we may have just had bad luck, but because it was our first time there and from what our friends' told us, I doubt we'll ever go back.

    Good for What It Is

The park is small in size but good for what it is overall, which is that it's a fenced area that dogs can play at in a residential setting. Only compliant was no grass, it's all just dirt, which can damage paws if playing too long. Street parking and did have water on-site. Would recommend going during non-peak hours (early mornings and evenings) as it can get quite full during peak hours (after work-early evenings/weekends).

    Small And Dirty

Very small park in a residential area. No grass, dirt patch, there was a couple of dirty water puddles. Street parking. Not going back..

    Great dog park

Nice walk from where we were staying. Plenty of room for our dogs to run. Had a water fountain and hose for after their play. Also there's a great cafe across the street for after the dogs were worn out!

Okay, but need to be alert

This dog park is more of a run as there is hardly any grass. There is only one section for all -size dogs, so there can be issues with that. The bags are generally out and the trash cans are usually full. There have been a lot of problems with children running around the park unsupervised. The last two times I was there, someone left the large gate near the playground open and one of my dogs is a runner and ran two blocks away before my husband caught her. The second time, I was able to grab her before she noticed the gate was open. My husband went a couple of weeks ago without me and the gate was open again and someone else's dog ran out. I found out later that the kids leave the gate open. So if you have a dog that likes to escape or isn't great around unsupervised kids, I would not suggest going here with your dogs. The risk isn't worth it. The gate that the kids leave open isn't super visible from the main section with the benches and it's very easy for the dogs to slip out. Incredibly unsafe and I won't be taking my dogs there again during peak hours until I'm 100% positive that the problem has been solved.

I've seen issues with poorly socialized dogs getting into fights, people dropping their dogs off and leaving, etc. If you can find a way to exercise your dog without going here, I would suggest it. If you can go on off-hours, it's much better.
