  I ended up going to one of the beaches at Topsail and it was nice at first. took my two small dogs and they got to play and run around and people came up to pet them (with permission). There were other dogs off leash too. But we ran into a male caren he approached me and my family of 6 with 3 children (we’re Hispanics) he got very close to us while running which would entice and excite any dog to go play and get pets especially if they are socialized well. The man in question claimed to be a resident there and that off leash dogs weren’t allowed, I told him of the signs leading up to there saying it was fine and he decided to call the police while saying slurs and curse words infront of the children. Not sure if it was racially motivated or if he just did not like dogs (he ran past a few other dogs and said nothing even as they chased). Apart from that amazing beach

  Flies!?

  it was nice for about 20 minutes, then our dogs and us were covered in flies getting bit.

  Great Beach for my dog!!

  So many beaches aren’t dog friendly over the summer, so I was so excited to find out the Topsail is dog friendly! Over the summer dogs can’t be off leash, so I put my dog on a 20FT lead and he still had so much fun! There were also a lot of local eateries that we could take him to as well!

  Not Off Leash Where We Went

  I came here with my new pup because I thought off leash was allowed before May 15th but NO. All topsail island beaches only permit dogs on leash of 20ft or less year round. Just wanted to clarify that for everyone. Maybe someone can update the statement about this being off leash. Otherwise, we had a good time and my 5 month old puppy got to play in the ocean for the first time and dig in the sand until her heart was content.

  We got to the beach (in early April 2019) and saw signs that said ‘dogs only allowed with leash, pick up after them etc.’ We drove south towards Surf City and saw the signs were different there, they said dogs allowed off leash from Oct-May. We hopped out of the car and up over the dunes and had the whole beach to ourselves!

  Excellent dog friendly beaches!

  After having a difficult time trying to find a beach for our dog, I began my search on the web. Thanks to this website and the reviews posted, my family and I felt encouraged to visit this place with our dog. It was a great experience. Our dog loved playing in the sand and we had a great time. There were other dogs and she made friends easily. People there were nice and dog friendly. The beach has rules but it is possible to be there with your dog. The beaches are clean and relaxing.

  Confusion

  I thought the reviews sounded great, but when we went there was a sign at the beach that didn't give on/off season exceptions... There were also quite a few people with dogs on leashes and people with annoyed looks when rookie was off leash. I even saw one woman look frustrated as if she was about to say something she then shook her head and walked off.

  Great Pet Friendly Beach!

  Had such a wonderful experience taking my dog here. This was her first trip to the beach! It was mid October so she was able to run around off leash, which was great fun for her. There were several other dogs there as well and everyone seemed so nice and a lot of people even wanted to stop and say hello to my dog! Will definitely go again!

  AMAZING

  This is our new favorite beach. you have the bay side and the beach side and both are beautiful. Pets were very welcome even off leash until may 15th. Not many people were there either. very nice + relaxing.

  Koda Loves the Water

  SSSshhhh, Quit telling people about how great this beach is for Dogs! It's mine, all mine!!!! And Koda's too! Just kidding. :) It's great to have a beach that accommodates dog owners and their best friends, even if it's off peak season. I'm not complaining. Topsail's common sense approach is refreshing. Kudos to Tpsail and also thank you.

  I've been taking my dog to Topsail Island for 7 yrs now! it is absolutly the best "pet friendly beach" anywhere on the east coast, in addition to being beautiful, and clean! a hidden paradise for pet owners!
