    Great dog park, but...

... people bring dogs in heat. This has happened twice out of our last four visits. Our male dog (who is neutered) goes nuts and we spend the entire time trying to keep him off the female. The first time, the owners leashed her and left; the second time the owner did nothing and we left. We love that it is free, but wondering if a park with a permit requirement keeps more irresponsible owners out.

    nice park

I was pleasantly surprised by this park. The park is somewhat “S” shaped in a “block” fashion. No permits are needed. The park was empty when I arrived with my dog. Since it was quite hot it was nice being able to play ball with her in the shade. It would have been nice if there was water available but I bring my own anyway. I can see bringing my dog here again.

    ehh

OK first off someone needs to update the address for this park. It's not on Ray Moses Dr as listed by the Parks Dept. The parking lot is on Pleasant Pl just North of Parker Ave. I drove around on Moses for awhile looking for the park and ended up taking my dog to the zoo entrance by mistake.

Once I found the place I was surprised by the size of the park. It's a pretty big area in a zigzag shape. We were the only ones there on a Sunday morning in Feb.

    Pros:
    Bigger park.
    Double gated at 2 entrances.
    Benches
    A couple waste bins.

    Cons:
Low fence. (there is a big group of Geese that gather by the park which get's dogs attention)
No baggies for dog waste. There are dispensers but they were empty. (not that big of a deal since I always bring my own)

The people who bring their dogs here use it as a garbage dump. There's quite a bit of trash all over the walkway. Also no one seems to clean up after their dogs. Dog feces all over the park. If you have the time & energy to take your dog out to the park, don't be lazy, pick up after your pet!

    Phillips dog park

At first I had a hard time finding this park since its not actually part of phillips park itself but rather off to the left once you turn onto Howell place to get to the main entrance of the park. Its not visible from the entrance so you kind of have to look for it if you dont know where its at or are not familiar with the park itself.

Its 3 acres I believe so its not super huge but the park is nice and so far I havent had any problems with owners or really aggressive dogs. Theres benches and it is fenced in with no permit required which is a plus as well as having a few entrances and a small fenced off area for dogs to cool down with their owners away from other dogs playing in the park. Ive been there a few times now and from what ive been told it used to be a very busy park but not so much anymore as people have found the batavia park to be better for their dogs. There are trees for shade and its off the main road so the are not a lot of cars passing by to scare or be weary of with your dogs. theres a lot of activity here since the actual park is so big with a playground and trails and a privillion located just outside the fenced off area across the small parking lot provided for dog owners. On occasion theres is some sort of trolly that goes by every so often with people riding it so some dogs who like to chase moving things will get a kick out of it and with the fence theres a blockade so they wont get hurt unless they decide to jump it then thats a different story. This may or may not be a plus but there are a few outhouses located just outside the entrance of the dog park for those who may need a restroom while there and the park does provide baggies to clean up after your dog however ive been told also there may or may not be there at times so you may want to just bring your own just in case. all in all though a very nice place to bring your dog when others are there or just for a game of fetch by yourselves.

There are some drawbacks here... first being that there is no water for the dogs here you have to provide you own. the fence is you average backyard fence so its not very tall so dogs who like to jump them and or are climbers may be able to escape just so you know. And going around the entire park loos like at one point they may have had a small pool for dogs but its not overgrown with weeds and grass which would have made this park really nice had they kept it. Other than that though its a park for all dog sizes with small dogs and big dogs together so if you own a smaller dog be careful of the bigger dogs because they are all grouped together here. Not that that is so much of an issue just noting that theres are no seperate areas for big and small dogs.
