    Beautiful Views

The Quail Loop was much steeper than we anticipated. Read on another site that this trail was “easy”. It’s narrow and steep and hard to walk in the middle because of a bit of a gorge. Coming back down the Pirate Trail was also quite steep. We were glad we went down that side instead of up. 😂 Our Golden Retriever did great on it though! He loved it and will sleep quite well tonight!

    Beware

Beautiful hike - Beware of Off road cyclists, Snakes, Ranger and some locals :) Ranger will write you a very expensive ticket if they catch you off leash and a crazy guy that threatens to stab your dog if not on a leash and if dog comes near him! Horses on the Portuguese Bend Reserve parts of trail, Etiquette: Stop off trail and wait for horses to pass you. Please pick up dog poop as some people don't and it makes the hike less pleasant. Trash cans are located at Ladera Linda. THANKS

    I like it here

I enjoy coming here. I often don't see anyone else, the most I have seen is one person or two people together. There are some very steep areas which I let my dog off leash for since there isn't anyone around and going down can be tricky, but most of the trail is great. You can also get to Portuguese Bend Reserve from here. I have seen a rattlesnake here once, but I have come many times without seeing any.
