Smith Springs Recreational Area

Activities at the pet-friendly Smith Springs Recreational Area in Antioch, TN, range from fishing, hunting, picnicking, boating, canoeing, hiking and wildlife viewing. It's located on J. Percy Priest Lake, and dogs can swim in the lake! The beach is rocky, so bring water shoes. There are also people fishing in the area, so you'll want to stay away from the lines, but there's plenty of beach for everyone. The picnic area is nice and shady. This park is open April 1st through October 29th. Visit Website

    Good spot

My dogs love to swim and options are limited in nashville so I’m glad we found this spot. Easy to park and walk around with lots of water access areas. Definitely rocky and slippery shore line but the water itself is pretty clean. We went on a sat morning and it was fairly quiet. Def recommend for other dog owners!

    Free Parking and Dog Friendly

Went there with my boyfriend and pug for the afternoon on Memorial Day weekend. Park staff was friendly and verified there was a parking spot available for us before we passed through the entrance gate, since the Lot Full sign was up. Dogs need to remain leashed but since my pug doesn't swim he did just fine in his beach chair while my boyfriend and I swam in the lake. Plenty of shade, picnic tables and grassy areas surrounding the shore. Shoreline was a bit rocky and water shoes would have been nice but we still had a lot of fun swimming and tossing a football in the water. Highly recommend.

Great place to relax with your dog

This place is only about 15 minutes from downtown Nashville, and it wasn't difficult to find. Signs are posted clearly that dogs on leashes are allowed, and it's truly beautiful. I was disappointed that it was all rock and no sandy area b/c it makes it less friendly for my grandson who isn't so stable with his walking yet (1 yr). However, for just me and my dog, it's a nice place to just meander and enjoy the nice day. Supposedly there are trails, but I'm new to the area and not aware of all of them yet. I hope to find some more great finds as I explore, but I was really glad to find a place where my bully can wade in the water, as he loves this. It's very shady, and the people were really friendly. There's also a boat dock if you have a motor boat. Lots of people were getting in their kayaks right from this beach. I would recommend wearing water shoes if you plan on getting in. The water looks murky from a distance (kinda brownish green), but it was fine. I think the rocks underwater are making it look that way. It was really clear up close.
