  National Forest is NOT National Park

  DO YOUR RESEARCH. Too many of these reviews complain about the awesome Olympic National Forest not allowing dogs. That is FALSE. This is governed by the USDA. Not to be confused with the Olympic National Park which is National Park Service. NATIONAL FOREST ALLOWS DOGS ON TRAILS. National Park does not except for a handful. So go check out some cool Olympic National Forest trails with your dogs.

  Not bad if you do your research

  We hiked West Fork humptulips River and it was amazing for our water dogs. Lots of river Crossings and a beautiful well-maintained Trail. Only people we saw were two guys and their ponies who maintain the trail.

  National FOREST Awesome! National PARK, not so much

  Some people are getting confused, there is an Olympic National FOREST and PARK. The Forest surrounds the Park. The forest is dog friendly with many awesome adventures for our four legged friends.

  A secret favorite, in the summer try the Humptulips trail, it crosses the river many time and because its summer can be forded very easily (mid calf depth).

  The Park on the other hand is pretty much off limits, although dogs are allowed in some areas.

  Not Too Dog Friendly

  Took a trip around the Olympic Peninsula, many of the attractions we took our dog to he was not allowed. Those included the National Parks, such as the Hoh Rain Forest, Lake Quinault's Rain Forest, many of the waterfall trails, and everything else inside the park. The rangers said anywhere a car can go the dog can go. So that is quite limited for the pup.
  Places like Forks, Lake Crescent, Lake Quilanalt, the beaches, Hurricane Ridge Visitors center and Cape Disappointment State park were more dog friendly. Cape Disappointment, furthest NW point of US, was a fun place to take the dog though. It was a short little trail our dog loved. Overall the Olympic Forest is not dog friendly, but along the beach and the lakes it is an achievable trip.

  Hikes for Dogs

  We just returned from the West/North side. We hiked with our dogs in the Olympic National Forest at Lake Quinault on the nature trails and Fletcher Creek Trail. We walked on the beaches at Kalaloch and were able to take a short walk on Rialto Beach and out to Cape Flattery - very scenic. At Crescent Lake we were able to walk 7 miles by going out and back on the Spruce Railroad Trail along the lake shore. We also walked the Peabody Trail by the Olympic National Park office. It is labeled as a short loop but there is an extension for a longer walk.

  Dog-Friendly Trails - Olympic National Forest

  There are MANY dog-friendly trails all over the Olympic National forest. Dogs are allowed anywhere in the National forest, and just not allowed in the National Park. Our Alaskan Malamutes have been on most of the trails, including: Tubal Cain, Buckhorn Lake, Silver Lakes, Murhut Falls, and many more!

  Wouldn't recommend

  I wouldn't consider this to be a dog friendly location. Dogs are not allowed on trails at all, so unless you want to be in your car all day, they're really not well received. And if you want to explore the trails or other attractions, what then? Leave Fido in the car to bake? US National Parks are not "dog friendly", they are merely tolerant.
