    Bug Light Park is a pet-friendly recreation area with over eight acres in South Portland, ME. Bring Fido along for a stroll or picnic near the water. Off-leash dogs are allowed as long as they are kept within 100-feet of you and under voice control. Pet waste must be bagged and properly disposed of in a trash receptacle. Visit Website

      Great Location for Off-Leash Trained Dogs

      This spot is a wide open field with other small wooded areas. The park has signs that indicate off-leash is allowed which is awesome! Be aware there is no fence to separate the park from the road, water or exits.

      We love coming here to let our dog play fetch and run around the field.

      NO OFF LEASH

      New rules in South Portland have destroyed off leash dog areas. NO more off leash plus nothing is fenced.

      Kites and Dogs, Oh My!

      The park at Bug Light is huge. Weekends are for flying kites and there is always quite a crowd. It was the first thing we noticed when we were at the Visitor's Center in Portland. Grabbed my kite and with our 2 Bernese Mountain dogs, headed to Bug Light. We kept our dogs on leash but walked the entire area. Many people were flying kites. Returned a second time just to walk around again. Will be returning for their big Kite Festival in 2020.

      Off leash

      Small, cute, dog friendly park with great views of the lighthouse and the ocean. There is a short path around a patch of greenery in the center. Dogs can be off leash as long as they are under voice control.

      Good Quick Stop

      We stopped here for about 20 minutes to stretch our legs and let our pup stretch hers while driving from Boothbay to Cape Elizabeth. It was a great little stop, and a cute little lighthouse. Lots of other dogs running around.
