    Very pup friendly!

Staff were very accommodating and showed me what tours my dog and I could enjoy together.

    Amazing Place to Visit

Monticello was just awesome. Of course, dogs are not allowed in the buildings but with two of us, we were able to tag team. The grounds are extensive, we did outdoor tours of the gardens and slavery history, which the pup attended. The trail up to the house is fairly steep...but the house is on top of a hill. Dog bowls for water are provided by the cafe. Staff were super friendly.

    Beautiful grounds

we were a little confused so I thought I’d share the details! You have to buy grounds and gardens tickets at the visitor center, then you pass through the ticket taking and they will direct you to the path up the hill to the house. there is a bus up but no dogs allowed. the walk up is fairly steep and about 15 minutes. it was perfect for 3 kids and a pup to get their wiggles out, and the walk takes you past Thomas Jefferson’s grave and the kitchen gardens and the foundations of some of the plantation buildings. We were able to walk all around the outside of the house and through the gardens, and our dog sat at a table outside with us while the kids had ice cream.
I will say, the ticket price for just the grounds was a bit high ($20+) but if you’re with a group and someone wants to stay outside with the dog while others go inside, it’s not a bad situation!

    Friendly Staff

We visited with our goldendoodle and received a warm reception by the volunteers and staff. You of course can’t go in the buildings or to certain parts of the gardens, but overall it was very pleasant. Other dogs were there which is always a plus.

    Their Website Is Deceiving.

states the the grounds are dog friendly but they’re not. the trails are dog friendly. your dog isn’t allowed near open visitor center or near the home itself. we went in the winter and the trails were muddy so bring doggy shoes for your pup or make sure you have wipes
