Highlands Biological Station

Highlands Biological Station in Highlands, NC, is a dog-friendly native plant botanical garden with flat trails for owners and their dogs to walk along. The 12-acre botanical garden features native azaleas, plants of the Cherokee, mosses and liverworts, wildflowers, butterfly-pollinated species, and rock outcrop species. At 3,800 feet, it's the highest public native plant botanical garden in the east. The HBS Gardens and grounds are open year-round, dawn to dusk, and are free of charge. Great for a flat hike
If you are looking for a pleasant place to walk with your pup that's low-key, Visit the Botanical Gardens at the Highlands Biological Station. Lots of great plant life, much of it is marked. You can walk around the lake, filled with lily pads & snapping turles, or pick one of the meandering paths the go by the tiny creeks. The longest walk is about 40 minutes.
