    Nice park but...

Looked like a lovely park but we were forced to leave after 5 minutes by a border collie named Blue and his clueless owner. He hated my 7 month old puppy as soon as we entered, snarling alongside my dog just waiting for him to react, which he didn’t, following him everywhere. Owner said “don’t worry they’ll work it out, he’s just herding”. I am an experienced dog person, this was not herding. Blue then snapped at his neck with no provocation. His owner put him on leash and took him to the other side of the park. She then left after a few minutes and her dog was on his back feet, lunging at another dog and barking, snapping, growling as he left, My dog who goes to daycare to play and obedience training, played happily with other dogs until this woman came back in with her dog after 3 minutes, let him off leash and he ran directly to my dog and bit him on the side. My puppy whipped his head around to his side 4 times, his side covered in slobber from the attack, no gaping wound but did break the skin. I was so shocked I snapped on his leash and told my husband we were leaving. I was too shocked and outraged I didn’t even say anything to the owner. This is how dogs can become fearful and dog aggressive and why I don’t like dog parks, but being on vacation we needed somewhere to let him run. I will stick to the small parks with a couple dogs. Another park we were at in Jupiter, he played great for an hour with a tiny dog, another knowledgeable’dog person’ came in and left after a minute as her dog raised her lip while my puppy politely sniffed her dog. This is a dog person who knows her dog and dog behaviour. Maybe this border collie was fine with 98 out of 100 dogs but when it isn’t, have the COMMON SENSE to apologize and leave.

    Always a Dog Fight!

Skip the dog park and enjoy a walk around the park. Dog park is full of rehabbers with aggressive pit bulls. Every time I have gone to this dog park I have witnessed a bad dog fight. My dog is never involved because I keep her away on the sides. I have left early every time. The actual Lake Ida Park is beautiful and has paved walking paths throughout so now I skip the dog park and just walk the park.

    Might have been nice

if an unresponsive and neglectful dog owner wasn't lazing on a bench while his dog hunted down and dominated my 9 year old arthritic dog so relentlessly we had to leave.

A great dog park for small dogs!

Our Westie really enjoys coming here! They have a huge small dog section (30 pounds or less), and there are always dogs to play with. Out of 50 trips, she has had 2 bad moments with some herding dogs trying to herd her. I just recommend you stay by your dog to make sure playing doesn't turn into anything scary.

    Great Park but...

I think this park is very well maintained. My dog loves it here! However, I think some dog owners need to be more courteous of others. Many occasions I've seen owners not pick up after their dogs as well as not apologize or reprimand their dog when they attack other dogs. My small puppy was attacked by another small dog and the owner just sat there and watched, I had to pick my dog up so that her dog would leave him alone. As I said, park itself is great but owners could use some training!

When a lot of large dogs are playing together and start snapping and BITTING what is the best way to stop it without losing your hand triying to separate them

    Fun for All

I've been going to this dog park for years and think it's great. I'd like to comment on Stephanie's review. There are occasional aggressive dogs, and grouchy people, but by and large, it's a very friendly place. If you're one of those people that can't stand dogs "working it out", and that may include a few growls and snaps, then maybe a dog park isn't a good idea for you... dogs do need to sort out who's the boss. I'm not saying that's what happened but given that you say your dog and your friend's were both attacked, I have to wonder. If there IS an aggressive dog there, you are asked to call the park ranger at 561-966-6600. Also, there are water spiggots in each park, and at least one stainless bowl that visitors keep filled. If it's dirty, dump it, rinse it, and refill it. One more thing to keep in mind, the parking lot is at times a favorite for smash-and-grab bandits. Don't leave valuables in your car.

    Very Pleased

My boyfriend and I just moved to the Boca Raton area and were very happy to find this friendly park. There were 2 separate areas for small and large dogs. Our pup had a blast meeting the other dogs and chasing balls. The park was clean and we were thankful for the drinking facilities for both pets and owners. Everyone was friendly and we felt very safe. I'm not sure what we do without the park for him to run and socialize!

    Not too happy

I read the reviews and thought this would be a great place to bring my dog. My friend and I went yesterday and it seemed to be very clean and the grass was well taken care of. But I had a few concerns. The water bowl was full of drool and dirt and I couldn't find a way to drain it so I could fill it will fresh water. Next I had problems with some of the owners. My dog was attacked twice and my friend's dog was attacked once. The owners didn't seem to care. One of the owner's dog attacked my dog as soon as they got to the park. It wasn't nipping it was a full on attack. Luckily my dog was able to escape unharmed. I told them man he probably shouldn't bring an aggressive dog to the park and he told me that 99.999% of the time his dog only attacks boxers. He was shocked when I informed him my dog wasn't a boxer. Then he yelled at me that his dog was on a leash and took about 20 steps away from me before he took his dog off the leash. Moments later my friend's dog was attacked by another dog and then the same dog turned on my dog. Luckily both our dogs escaped those attacks too. Frustrated and nervous we decided to just leave. I wasn't impressed with the bathing area. One of the hoses didn't work at all and the other had little water pressure. It's going to take some work to convince my friend to give this park another chance. It's a shame because the only other nice dog parks are in Boca or Pompano and it's such a far drive.

    Great for Dogs AND People

I wish I could take this park up north for my summer months up there! It's grassy, shady, very roomy, with benches, a gazebo, a walking path, poop bags, filled with friendly dogs and (mostly) friendly people. AND it's cleaned and maintained beautifully.

    Hometown Park

This a Great park three large fenced areas, two open, third is opened on a revolving basis. The bathing area is a nice option on those days that your dog just cannot stay clean. I go there often and find the people almost as friendly as the dogs (just kidding) Has lots of parking all the way around.

The map on this site shows its on Atlantic near federal hyw. Its really on Lake Ida rd just east of Congress Ave

Great Park, Great Dogs (and owners)

I've been frequenting the Lake Ida Dog Park for several weeks now, as I recently moved to the area. The park is relatively tidy and the dogs are friendly, with hours from sunrise to sunset. The park supplies waste bags and numerous garbage cans, areas for dogs to drink, and an area to rinse off dogs in case they get dirty. Public park restrooms available for humans. Closed Thursdays 12-3pm for maintenance, but there tons of other shady areas to sit and sidewalks to share with your dog. The vast majority of owners are very conscientious about watching their dogs, cleaning up after their dogs and noticing when any dogs get a little too aggressive. No major issues so far with the Dog Park. Great advantage to living near Lake Ida.
