FORGET THE REST STOPS; STOP HERE INSTEAD

We make the drive from CA to AZ with our Border Collie a few times a year. Noticed on the Bring Fido website, Kingman has a dog park & so glad we took the time to get off the road & visit. This park is a hidden gem for travelers on old Route 66.

Green lawns with picnic benches all around, clean restrooms and clear signage for areas where dogs ARE and Are Not allowed. Our dog was able to run in a secured location for big dogs & happy to visit with little guys in the adjacent run for Small Dogs through the chain link fence. We humans were able to have a restful snack break & watch the trains go by … even a fun photo opp with Rte 66 background. We did not encounter issues similar to reviews from past years - just nice people. BRAVO to the City of Kingman for this terrific stopping place. I wish more towns would do this. Why go to a dried out Rest Stop along the freeway where the dog can’t really exercise when we can stop, pick up lunch and come here? We will be back!

Pleased to find grass and shade in desert!

Traveling through AZ from CA with nothing but desert around us. This park was the perfect stop for our Boston Terriers. Park has separate areas for large and small dogs. Nice water fountain for us and them with cool water on a very hot day.

    Caution is needed

I'm a long-time local who has used this park for many years. You exercise caution because multiple dogs using one facility means you're going to deal with problems, both canine and human.
My dogs have gotten infections from this park, specifically the communal water dish. I tend to bring my own. Problem solved.
Pet owners are really nice or they are proper (jerks or idiots for the non-British jargon lovers). You make the decision to go or stay and deal with them.
There are holes from gophers and holes from dogs going after the gophers. Watch your step while you walk around the park.
People either are into their phones or some conversation when their dogs do their business. Watch your step here, too.
And before I go, to those who complain about the latter problem, get an extra bag and pick up the other poop, please. I refer to it as "Dog Park Karma Balancing".

    A Golden Experience!!

We are traveling with 4 Golden Retrievers. This park started our day off great! The big dog area is spacious, clean, safe, shady and well maintained. We met the friendly locals, that made us feel welcome. Easy access on and off I-40. A bonus is a Route 66 sign for a photo op. Golden tested and approved!

    Kingman,Az

Traveling from Tx to Or and we stopped by this dog park to air our 5 trained labs. We did not want socializing or playtime - just a few minutes to allow each to relieve itself.

The lrg dog area had one lrg dg, one area was padlocked, and the sm dog was not being used. To avoid any conflict or extended time spent, we aired one dog at a time in the sm dog area. Aired 4 and then a dog fight and then a people fight occurred. Another traveling couple removed their dogs from that area and came to the sm dog area (their dogs were not involved).

The dog park is very well kept up but appears to have a lot of useage for the size of the facility. During the short tome we were there at least 5-6 canines visited each area - not including our dogs. One local related that the police have been called on several occasions regarding conflict.

If you visit, take care in choosing whether to allow your dogs to enter with others. Avoiding muddle of day might be adviseable. Thank you Kingman, Az for providing a nice place to allow dogs to be off leash.

Great dog park!! Love it :)

When reading negative reviews on here please remember that most of the time only angry people who had a bad experience take the time to leave a review... So you see more negative reviews than positive. I can tell you first hand this dog park was great! We were passing through on our way from California to Albuquerque for the holidays and after reading those reviews we were a little hesitant to take our dog there... But after arriving we realized it's a great, friendly dog park! We have a 1 year old Sheepadoodle (old English sheepdog + standard poodle) and he had a wonderful time there. Friendly locals and dogs :) I can only speak for the big dog section... I can't speak for the small dog section. But overall we had a great experience and will definitely stop there again on our way back home.

    DO NOT COME

I have a 2 y/o German shepherd. Who does not like out of control dogs (I.e. Constantly sniffing, jumping, and nipping at him.) Since there are not many dog friendly places, we decided we'd stop to let him run after a 2 hour car ride. It started off great with only 3 other dogs. Most owners had control over their dogs, so I was not worried. He even played with them. Then more people came, who just sat under the awning while their dog kept nipping at a little dog. So bad, the owner picked up his dog (the dog kept jumping and biting the other dog even though it was in the owners arms). THE OWNER OF THE PEST-DOG DID NOTHING BUT SIT ON THEIR ASS AS THIS HAPPENED. We decided to moved further away from this dog, knowing that ours would not like it. We even had him sitting in between our legs. But this dog wandered up and began terrorizing mine. After several warning growls from my dog and me and my hubby trying to push this dog away and telling him to go away, he came back and jumped on mine nipping him in the face!!!!! THE OWNERS NO WHERE IN SIGHT. My dog snapped at him, sending him running and once again, the owners no where in sight. This is complete BS and the reason why dog trainers BEG owners NOT to take their dogs to parks.... the people who do NOT know how to control their dogs lead to the problems.

This same man tried to kick my dog

This same older, tall grey haired man standing there with his black and white cocker spaniel like dog. who kicks dogs tried to kick my dog and he is only 10lbs and my service dog.

Today a mentally ill lady with a small infant in her arms .screamed at me about my dog being on the big side. I have seem many little dogs on that side throughout the last year. She said I pissed her off and made it her buisness. I was in control of my dog and chose to take him out yet she thinks I left because SHE SAID SO... she was INSAVE and someone shoould check on the wellness of that infant. She had NO BUSINESS talking to me especially in that TONE.

Proplr eith no emotional control... twice is enough for me.

    dog park

i have 2 shih-zues and i went to the park during the summer and my dogs had a great time. i took them in the winter this year twice and it took me over 2 hours per dog to get out all the stickers in them, especially between the toes where they limped to me and i had to carry them out and tweezer the stickers between their toes. i don't know what they call these stickers but they are a l ittle bigger than a flea and spiny. wait until the summer befrore you bring them here especially if they have their winter coat.

    Disappointing

The reported reviews regarding the dog owner's neglience to: (1) vaccinate their dogs, and (2) control, what appears to be witness animal abuse at the Lewis Kingman Dog Park, is disappointing. It goes to say, if the dog owner does not have good moral standards, then how are they able train their dog to have good moral standards too. Say this to them, "If you can not act appropriately (play nice on the play ground), then remove yourself from the play ground." This is my opinion and I am sticking to my story.

Traveling with my dog this park was great and easy access. Close to hotel felt very safe. Not too big. But shaded. And friendly.

Love the dogs, not all the people.

We bring our Lab cross puppy and older Australian Shepherd to this park a few times a month to allow them to play with other dogs. Many people in town have "aggressive" breeds, such as Pitbulls, and you can obviously see many owners sit at the far side of the park when they enter. Many of the owners, and all of the dogs, have been very nice and I don't see the issue.

Great Park, A Few Clueless People

I have lived in Kingman for almost 9 years, and have always taken my dogs to this park without a problem - up until 9 months ago. My husband and I adopted a new puppy from the animal shelter nine months ago. He was estimated to be nine months old at the time. After immunizations, neutering, etc. we started taking him to the park. He was/is a big boy (about 80 lbs). DNA shows he is a true mutt. However, he was very shy at first and several dogs converged on him. All of the owners quickly got their dogs under control and our dog was not injured. This happened multiple times the first three weeks or so. However, once our boy felt stronger and was well, he wanted to play - and play hard. If he became the least bit "aggressive" - and I use that word for lack of a better word, because he is not an aggressive dog - there are several people that became angry and told us we should not bring our dog to the park. They don't seem to understand that an 80 lb. puppy is still learning proper social behavior and some other dogs are simply timid.
Bottom line, it has been 9 months, we have taken our boy to obedience training, work with him daily, and he rarely, rarely gets out-of-hand - but the same people don't like him and get nasty or give us dirty looks when we take him to the park. Very sad.

    Dangerous place

We took our 8 month old puppy here. The old man in the in the other review was there swearing and kicking any dogs that came next to his. There was also a pittbull there's who should not be at a dog park! He bit my husband
As we were trying to get our dog and leave because it was to dangerous to be there. His owner had left the area and left the dog. If you go there make sure what dogs and people are there!!

    DONT TAKE YOUR DOG

My husband and I moved to Kingman, AZ from Virginia in July of this past year. With us we brought our dog and two cats. Our dog was 9 months old and updated on all her shots when we arrived. We were ecstatic to learn that Kingman had a dog park, and that it was free! We soon found out that it was open to anyone and any dog, there is no lock on the gates or specific operational times. Where we came from our dog had to be registered and show proof of vaccines, and then you had to pay a fee to access the park and got a key. We were confident in VA that we would have to problems with other dogs seeing as they had to be update as well, so the dog park in Kingman seemed sketchy to us. Needless to say, we still took our dog a few times a week so she could play with other dogs, but we never will anymore.
Our friend moved to Kingman about two weeks ago and brought his dog, a 110lb pure breed Rottweiler. This Rottweiler was actually our dog’s best friend, since they grew up together back in VA. Our friend took his dog to the park every evening from the time he got into town until a few days ago. He had to hospitalize his dog on Tuesday morning for Parvo. His dog had been up to date on all his vaccinations and was only around the dogs at the park, ours and a few friends’ dogs. Since all of our dogs are vaccinated and not showing signs of Parvo, the vet said it had to have come from the dog park. Our friend has struggled these last few days as his dog has been hospitalized and cared for since Tuesday morning. After showing signs of improvement on Wednesday afternoon, he took a turn for the worse, and our friend had to put him down today.
I think the city of Kingman needs to put into place new requirements and restrictions for the dog park. We will never take our dog there again, and I advise others to do the same until something is done to regulate the dogs going in and out of the park.

    Mixed feelings

On 05/24/13 we visiting this dog park and it was wonderful. The people and the dogs were friendly. We loved it. Would have given it a 5 star review.
However, we visited again on 5/27/13. This visit upset me alot. My husband entered with our large Shepard and all seemed well. Then my kids and I entered with our Belgium Shepard. She is a bit curious and ran over to the water fountain. There was an older, tall grey haired man standing there with his black and white cocker spaniel like dog. As my dog approached the water he said, "My dog is drinking, your dog needs to wait or we will have a problem." I thought interesting remark. I wasn't sure if he meant his dog would have issues because it doesn't like sharing or if he meant us as owners would have issues. Later an older ladies puppy jumped on his dog. This man kicked the 6 month old puppy repeatedly , grabbed it by the lease and tried to throw it against a tree. The older lady took a while to get over to him, so an older teenage boy ran over and grabbed the puppy. The older man raised his hand at the boy and told him to get the puppy the beep out of the park. The boy said "it's not my dog." The older lady was mortified and apoligized to the man for her puppy jumping on his dog. He told her to read the rules and get the beep out of the park. She had gotten the puppy from the pound a few weeks before and was still working on training it. Most of us pet owners understood that the puppy was just playing and was hyper. This guy was out of control. I tried to get his license, but he had no plates on the front of his small pick up truck and took off quickly. This man should be brought up on changes for animal abuse. This was horrible to witness. I felt this should be documented incase this man causes another incident at this park. Another couple said he comes often and always keeps his dog away from others. (Why even go if the dog isn't going to be allowed to socialize).
