    Great Dog Park

Our 6 month old doodle Mae had the best time at Tybee Island dog park. All the dogs and owners were so friendly and welcoming to us. We visited the park several times while we were on the Island.

    Not impressed

This dog park is at the back of a busy campground, and as we were going to it, my dog got covered in burrs. We just left at that point so I could pick his coat clean.

So glad for the Tybee Dog Parks!

We took our dogs to the little dog park (by police station) and to the big dog park that's just around the corner in the campground. Both were VERY NICE: clean mulch, shady trees, nice outdoor furniture, fun playground props for dogs, clean running water with a nice big bowl, safe with double fencing at entrance, nice people, nice dogs. We were grateful for these parks, especially since they were on the nice cross-town bike / walking route, near good dog-friendly restaurants, and a way to exercise the dogs since they are never allowed on Tybee beaches.

    Great dog park!

We went here every day, sometimes twice a day. The locals and travelers alike are very friendly. Every dog we met was well-behaved and they all played together well. There was water, lots of parking, and it’s well-kept. It’s a very large park a with lots of room to run.

    NEW PARK!!

Totally not right that this park has 2 bones. The park is brand new. It has been graded and mulched. There is a new fence surrounding the property. They have recently planted about 10 trees which someday will provide even more shade. They are benches and tables for the human guests. Water bowls, a small tub and a larger doggies pool. Rhey did a nice job creating a new park for the pups

    Good Dog Park, New Location

(from the City of Tybee Island website) “The Tybee Dog Parks are located at the intersection of Van Horne and Fort Streets, between the Police Station and River's End Campground and RV Park.”
**Good park, plenty of space to run, mulch ground cover, water and poop bags available. Zeke the Goldendoodle had a great time!

    Dog had fun but disappointed

After planning our trip and finding a place that would take our puppy... we were discouraged to learn that dogs were not allowed on any part of the beach or pier. We found the dog park while we were touring the island via golf cart and thought it would be a great break for our pup. We visited the larger breed park (II) since our pup is a Goldendoodle. The space was adequate, however, the fence has fallen down on one side and it was overgrown. There were benches and a place with bags to dispose your dogs refuse. Our puppy had fun and we had it to ourselves, but there were pieces of glass and trash littered about the place. This has great potential if it was maintained.

    Not 5 star but...

We stay at Rivers End RV park. The dog parks are right next door which is great. We have two very small dogs (under 15 lbs) and we took them to dog park 1 which is for smaller dogs. It's not a 5 star resort people. It's a dog park, on a small tourist island. It was well fenced in with chain link, the wooden privacy fence is in disrepair but our dogs loved it. They have a few chairs to sit in, a long tube for the pups to play in and a hose, socket, and water bowl. A dog waste bag dispenser and trashcan. I did go around and pick up other people's dog's poop because I didnt want my dogs running in it. So if people would be responsible owners and pick up after their pets that would be a plus. But our dogs enjoyed their time in the park and so did we. Plenty of shade for them and room to run! It does suck that there isnt a time for leashed dogs to be on the beach. Wish tybee would change their rules for that but we love Tybee and that doesnt deter us from making this our vacation spot!

    Disappointing

I read reviews and personally called the Tybee Police Dept. to confirm the cities pet policy for the beach access for visitors traveling with pets.
They are absolutely not allowed anywhere on the beach at any time on or off leash.
We are staying in Savannah and having to drive back and forth to Hilton Head to a much more dog friendly area than Tybee Island.
    So disappointed.........

    Seriously???

I was really hoping the poor reviews were old. I'm here for Oct 2018 for an extended stay for work, not even for vacation and really need a place my dog can get some good exercise. So this "dog park" doesn't even look safe for dogs. The fencing is falling down in some areas, there are holes started by other dogs under the fence, plastic trash all over the ground. The surface is mulch with some grassy patches. The weeds have grown up along the fence. The water source is a broken water hose. I'm extremely disappointed.

About the beach situation, it is a $290 fine on first offense for a dog on the beach. I think it would be in the city's interest to either improve (dramatically) the dog park or allow dogs on the beach, at least for certain hours or a specified stretch of the beach. If dog waste is the issue they could require dogs to have some type of permit to be on the beach. I would willingly pay a fee to allow my dog on the beach. The fee money could go to a dog poop DNA registry (ex. PooPrints) and then anyone who did not clean up on the beach could be fined whether or not they were caught in the act.

I have heard there are dog friendly beaches on Hilton Head Island less than an hour north of here so we'll be checking that out.

if I could rate this no bones I would

Tybee dog park is a joke! It’s dirty broken chairs and full of bugs. There is no shade so the ground gets way too hot for the dogs. Tybee should be ashamed to even call this a dog park. Tybee is extremely dog unfriendly and that’s a shame.

    Are you kidding?

Went to take my 2 small dogs to the dog park this afternoon as a change from walking along the streets(no beach for pets remember). This is almost the worst dog park I’ve ever seen. I actually wouldn’t have known it was a dog park except for the sign. Very small fenced in area, dirty, little grass, tiny bit of shade and what looked like a broken down bench. The city should be ashamed and should offer better to its visitors who are spending money supporting your local businesses.

    Not so good

A big pile of mulch, people don't pick up after their dog, no shade. It's little more than a fenced in empty lot. Tybee should compensate a bit for not allowing dogs on the beach (something I certainly get) with a decent dog park. Some water, some shade and a bit of cleaning please.

    Terrible

It is embarrassing how bad the dog parks on Tybee are. We visited #2 which had very little grass, dilapidated benches, plastic chairs, and NO WATER. Tybee is known for being dog unfriendly regarding beach access, but they should be ashamed they are not accommodating the pets of tourists that pour money into their little community. Is it really too much to ask for fresh water?

    disappointing

Dog park is a little difficult to find, and, not their fault, disappointing that Tybee beaches are all NO dogs. Dog park is only mulch - very dirty, no grass at all.

    MOVED...Not Near Jaycee Park

The dog parks are on either side of the police station. The park for big dogs is at the base of the large cellular antenna and the entrance is at the backside of the base of the antenna. Its large enough but bad location and hard to find. No other dogs there when we visited, so we didn't stay long

This will be my last trip to Tybee Island. It is unfortunate that narrow minded people are making the decisions. Did something terrible happen with a dog on the beach in the past? I just don't understand why a dog is not welcome on the beach at SOMETIME during the day. Most beaches do and Tybee is not as beautiful as most beaches that do.

    Very Disappointed

Small, dirty, I wouldn't even go in it. It's Really a joke and should not be called a dog park. I'd put my dogs in a kennel before I would let them go in this place. Not really a pet friendly island for out of towners. Just mine and wife's opinion.

    Surprising Find

Accidentally discovered the dog park this past weekend, wasn't expecting it at all. Dog Park II was very spacious, lots of room for big dogs to run around (my pooch is less than 20lbs, but she enjoyed the wide open space, our other dog was 50+lbs). A few benches, chairs, and shade trees, plus friendly people made the experience enjoyable.

My only downside was the "mulch" ground covering, the dogs didn't mind it, but my human feet did. Definitely need to wear thick rubber soles to keep from getting poked and scratched.

Overall, nice place to check out while spending time on Tybee

    Great Little Park

Nice park for beachers. Tybee island itself is dog friendly. Nice walking area, many places to eat outside, and pet friendly hotels. BUT NO dogs are allowed on the beaches at any time! For those who love to take your dog on vacation, Tybee can work for you. Tybee Island Dog Park is a great place to hang out with your best friend. The people who come are responsible dog owners, the park is clean, shaded, has benches, and water. We come to Tybee several times a year, and ALWAYS go to the dog park at least once a day.
