    Aggressive beavers attack dogs

At first, I really liked this off-leash dog Trail. But yesterday when I took my dogs for a hike around the lake a beaver was stalking us. As we walked on the trail he was swimming along with us and made aggressive moves towards the shore. I thought we lost him, but around the other side of the lake when my dogs went near the water in an area of brush and trees they were viciously attacked by this beaver and sustained multiple deep puncture wounds. The emergency vet I took them to told me that this is a very common occurrence at University Lake. If your dog doesn't like the water than this might be a good place for you but also beware that there are bright yellow signs posted everywhere warning about an aggressive Moose that is in the area too. I for one will not be going back.

    Pros n Cons

There is alot that is GREAT about this park, including somewhere to play fetch, wade in the river, walk around the trail system and a nice field area to play fetch. That being said....there are lots of people who do not pick up after their dogs, their are aggressive beavers in the lake (And probably Giardia), and many dog owners are aloof about dog behavior. The other thing, even though its a Off-leash Dog park....you'll often see bikers, skiers, walkers, etc. Who do NOT want to be approached by dogs.... or cut off/ tripped/ jumped on and they get rude and grouchy;(

    fantastic!!

My favorite place in Anchorage, and my dog's too!! Has to be one of the best dog parks in the nation! There is wildlife. I've seen moose and beavers, but have never had a problem. The one mile loop around the lake is the perfect distance. I highly recommend a visit even if you don't have a dog, it's beautiful! And I've only ever met friendly dogs. It's a very popular place!

    sigh

The park used to be fantastic, but it's true that it's no longer the go to park for dogs. My dog was also attacked by Beavers but I don't blame the Beavers even though my dog didn't provoke them. It's they're home and we need to respect the wildlife.

    OMG

This is probably the worst dog park I've been too. the beavers attacked my dog, homeless people sleep in the woods near where we park the cars, and I had my car broken into today and they stole all of my items. Go at your own risks.
