    Love love love

We are park hoppers! My dogs safety is my utmost concern. We have been to hundreds of parks all over the country. From Maine to Las Vegas. The reviews here mention the short fences. Yes that's true. They are 4 ft. Not high enough for some agile dogs who may wanna do harm and jump over.
However, this place is big and spacious, sand like we are on the beach, ample parking, FAR from any kind of traffic, the owners all seemed to be conscious of closing gates, waiting before opening them. The best part was every single person I met RESCUED their dog!
I cant wait to go back.

    Very Popular

Been to this park a couple times and both were filled with excitement. At least twenty dogs were in the large side and maybe ten or so in small side. Everyone seemed responsible and kept watch of all dogs...not just their own. Will def come back. BTW....Ernie my dog had a good time also!!!!

    Not up to par

Here’s what I like: large fenced in areas and plenty of parking

Dislike: The fence is very short and a large dog kept jumping over it to play with the small dogs. There is way to much dirt/sand/patchy grass. it doesn’t seem like this park is tended to at all. There was litter all over of empty chip bags, soda cans, beer bottles, etc.

overall this park has potential but it’s not clean or tended to at all. I don’t recommend.

    Good place but caution

I have been to this park several times and find dogs and owners responsible most of the time (except there was a lot of poop way back in the large dog section not cleaned up by owners). I went yesterday and came home with 2 deer ticks on me (9/29/16) so take precaution and check your dog and yourself when you return.

    Irresponsible owners

Went here often with my lab mix. However, once the summer season came there were numerous irresponsible pet owners with aggressive dogs . There were many dog fights, and the owners with the aggressive dog wouldn't remove there dog. Stopped taking my dog there, no need for a vet bill because people can't handle their dogs.

    Needs major clean-up

People don't clean up after their dogs and it is not only disgusting, but a health hazard for both the dogs and their owners. The city used to provide dog waste bags, but they no longer seem to be doing that, so people just don't bother bringing their own bags. I would not bring my dog there.

    Fun for dogs

This is a CITY park not a STATE park, maintained by the tax dollars in the City of Warwick.
I go to the park on a regular basis and I believe the most important improvement needed is with the owners. Many people come in with dogs that they have no control over, are aggressive and have no idea what is considered proper play. Improvements to the park need to start with the visitors/owners. There have been volunteer clean up days, unfortunately it doesn't make much of a difference because after a couple if days it is like it never happened. On any given day (especially after the weekend) the amount of feces left is disgusting, no one wants to pick up after YOUR dog, anyone that doesn't pick up after their dog is also inviting illness as well. It is really not that difficult to help out by just taking care of your own dog. Other than the ignorance of many owners it is a great place for the dogs to play, socialize and expend energy. The park as a whole is a beautiful place to visit.

    Short Fence

I took my dog to Warwick since I was running errands in the area and we stopped at the dog park. Like the other reviewers say, it is all sandy dirt so come prepared with a covering in your back seat so when all that dirt comes off it isn't going everywhere. I'm impressed with how big the large dog section was, that was great. While grass would be nice I understand the upkeep and money that it would cost and big dogs particularly would most likely cause most of it to be ripped up while running and playing. My biggest issue with this dog park is the short fence that surrounds it and separates the small and large dog areas. So many different breeds of large dogs could easily jump that fence, it doesn't seem safe. The only other thing seemed to be that I saw a lot of larger dogs in the small dog area and I couldn't figure out why exactly people were taking them over there. My only conclusion was that possibly they believed dogs in the large area weren't well behaved enough or there were too many "pit-type" breeds that they didn't want their dogs over there. The only other issue was one that I've encountered at many dog parks and that was someone bringing in a young un-altered female dog. That is just a BAD idea. Please some bring your dog, regardless of sex, to the dog park if it is not fixed!!

    Needs Improvement

I give this dog park 2 bones because it could use improvement. It is a good idea. Love that there is an area for small dogs and another for big dogs.

I would like to see more grass added instead of dirt. I understand it is easier for the state to keep clean but it is not great for the dogs. Can they add grass and cut the grass? Right now the grass they do have is rather long and could contain ticks. Also, there needs to be enforcement on picking up after your dog. Possibly a fine if reported? I don't like having to watch where I step or wonder if my dog will get in my care full of poop!

Possibly the state could organize a few clean up days? A dog walk to obtain funds to keep the park clean? Like I said, good idea, good concept for the community...would just like to see it be GREAT!!!!

    Suits its purpose

Buttonwoods is very dusty which is probably the biggest concern. With a lot of space for dogs to run around in separate small and large dog sections, everyone gets their exercise and socializing in. People were nice enough to leave chairs behind.

    Dust bowl

Pros: I like the fact that the pens are separated, one for large dogs and one for small dogs. Pretty large area to run and plenty of shade (as least on the large dog side. Also, chairs and benches to sit.
Cons: The landscape is mainly sand/dirt. As the dogs run around it become a dust bowl. In the shaded area watch where you step because apparently some people don't clean up after their dogs. My last complaint would be that there are many toys and balls that were just left there. God forbid a fight breaks out because of toy aggression.

    Nice place

I took my 7 month old Springer Spaniel there for the first time this past weekend (8/21/11) and he had a great time playing with the other dogs. The large dog area has a lot of chairs and benches under some shade trees for the people. The area is a combination of sand and grass outside the tree area and the entire area is fenced in to allow off-leash play time for the dogs. The people I met there were friendly and kept their dogs moderately well behaved. But let's face it, we have to give our dogs time to be dogs if they're to have any fun at all. Overall it was an enjoyable experience. Dean, my Springer, was exhausted when we got home.
