Free to Run on the Beach

Walton Rocks Dog Beach is the only dog friendly Beach in Martin County Florida. The road into the park seems to have been recently improved as it was a bit difficult to enter in 2023. The park has restrooms as well as hoses to rinse you and your dog off after playing on the beach. It is surrounded by thick tropical foliage away from the road so it is a safe place for your dog to run free on the sand. My dog is a tripaw so this is a great resource for him to run freely off leash and exercise his legs.

    Beautiful beach

Nice beach after passing the power plant. While the beach was very nice the water got deep very quickly so not ideal if bringing kids. This is likely seasonal but the parking lot had extremely aggressive mosquitoes. We read that in a previous review but it was much worse then we could have imagined

    Nice but…

There were so many large rocks in the water at this beach that I kept hurting myself in them. We walked to different locations on the beach but still a lot of sharp rocks everywhere. Also a million mosquitos attacked us on arrival in the parking lot. I’ve been scratching for days! Otherwise, our dogs had lots of fun.

    Awesome beach fun for dogs

This beach is open again as of Dec 24, 2022. Visited a few days ago as it’s close to my parents home on Hutchinson Island. Lots of friendly dogs and people and the views are gorgeous! There’s plenty of parking and a bathroom building with a hose on the outside of the building to wash your dog off. The recent storm pushed a lot of sand inland and they are still in the midst of cleanup but it’s still a wonderful spot.

    Best Dog Beach Ever

This beach is the best dog beach I have been too and I have been to many. My husband and I took our dogs to this beach around 6:00 in the evening. There was hardly anyone else there. My dogs enjoyed running around off their leash and going in the water. We were able to walk about a mile up the beach and probably could have kept going a lot farther. There was also a hose to wash the dogs off near the parking. If I had a beach like this near me, I would walk on it with my pups daily!

    Love this park

we bring our dogs here almost weekly. they love the water and running all around. Bathrooms are clean, there is a wash off hose and poop bags. Never had any issues with aggressive dogs but some owners just don’t pay attention. Hands down best dog beach I’ve ever been to.

Large off-leash dog beach, but most owners don’t pay attention to their pups.

Long stretch of beach that would have been perfect had the other owners cared to watch their off-leash dogs. Large parking lot, bathrooms and showers.

    The best dog beach!

We visit Walton Rocks often and love it! There’s a long stretch of beach just for the dogs and it’s maintained well. The water is beautiful, plenty of sand & space and it’s always a great time. There’s bathrooms and a hose to rinse your dog off. Bring mosquito spray as the bathroom area and the short walk over the dunes can be extra buggy during season. It’s such a great beach that I’ve even seen people come there without dogs.

    What fun!

Sunny, but very windy Sunday morning in January. All dog owners were super friendly and responsible about not bringing any aggressive dogs. Local dog owners had beach coolers filled with water too. Beach was clean, for owners tidied up after their pups. I used Waze to find the location without any troubles. There were public restrooms too.

    K9 Owners Keep It Clean

Wonderful to have a stretch of beach where you can have the company of man's best friend. Freedom to walk the beach or even enjoy the waves with your pup is great! It was nice to see dog owners being responsible with having control of their pets so it was a fun day and ample space for one-on-one play with our dog. We travelled from Orlando since there are so few beaches that welcome you to bring your K9 companion.

Cons: Bad owners. So disappointing to witness someone down the beach from us allow their pup to poop and then not clean it up properly, but just bury it. Poop near the dunes, which signage specifically states to keep dogs off dunes. Please pet owners clean-up. It is so hard to find pet-friendly beaches. Don't risk the privilege bringing dogs be revoked. This beach is here not just for your pup. The beach is a spot for humans and a somewhat delicate ecosystem, which is home to many sea creatures. Humans are there to surf, swim, and also enjoy a clean beach. Even at a dog park, specifically built for your dog it is expected you clean up. I'm sure quickly the beach signage could change to prohibit pooches.

Potential Dangers: There were a lot of cigarette butts. I had to keep a careful eye on pup. We had to keep him from eating them with a "leave it" command. Also, the beach name has rock in it for a reason, I stubbed my toe a few times and got a couple of scratches, but our dog was fine navigating them.

    Pick up the crap!

Beach lovers and divers will start filing the dog owners that do not pick up their dog waste.
It's time to make bad owners public criminals!

    worth the drive...

...but not the best ever experience. We were having a great time doing the long walk on the beach thing (because you can here which is what makes this beach so awesome!) when a large dog bullied my dog and the owners didn't bother to lease their dog after the incident. Other than that, the other dogs were great and there was lots of room. Plenty of parking.

    awesome spot!

Being new in town and only living about 10 minutes away I decided to bring my dog somewhere fun and this came up. Upon getting into my car, I put the address in my navigation system and ended up walking a creepy path and arriving on a nude beach lol I took my phone out and realized I was 800 feet away. However, once arriving at the right place, I was amazed how nice it was! There were about 6 dogs there and the owners and dogs were super friendly! Highly recommended!

    Great dog beach!

We live in Orlando and it took us about 1.45 to get here. Well worth the travel time. We used to go to the DeSoto off leash beach in St. Pete, which is about the same travel time, just on the opposite coast. We much preferred this one.

First of all, it's easy to get to. The beach is only steps from the parking area. At DeSoto, you have a long walk to get to the beach from the parking area.

The beach is GORGEOUS! Crystal clear blue water and soft white sand. Unlike other dog beaches I have been too, we are not regulated to a tiny section. The strip is long and perfect for running puppies.

The beach wasn't crowded at all. Everyone had more than enough space.

There was a bathroom plus a wash station for the dogs. This was my only complaint. While it's a nice amenity, the dog washing station was overrun with flying bugs that I think had stingers. We skipped the wash. Hopefully maintenance will come out there soon.

We read lots of comments that Google Maps was off. The maps must have been updated because we had no issues finding the beach.

All in all, the best dog beach we have been to in Florida.

    best dog-friendly beach!

While most beaches allow dogs (tolerate dogs), Walton Rocks is dog friendly! Huge difference. My lab loves it so we go about once a week. There is a hose by the shower house to rinse you and your pooch off after playing or fill up water bowls, but the bees like to hang out there too! Love the beach, we'll keep coming back :).

    A Barking Great Time

My little buddies first visit to a beach and it was a great time had by all. We opted for the leash free visit and he made so many friends. It was awesome to see all of the dogs running and playing together. The area was clean and they have a rinse area for pups and people too. It wasn't the Ritz but it got the job done. People cleaned up after their pets and shared water bowls and toys. The humans played as hard as the pups!

    Best Dog Beach Ever!

This dog beach was amazing! I really love how much fun my dog had with the other dogs. The water was pretty and clean, yet my dog wasn't to into it. The beach itself was very clean, no trash, and I only saw one doggy turd. I had never let my dog off her leash at a place like this but I felt really comfortable, and I took her leash off. She had so much fun there! I'm going to FOR SURE come again! I recommend if you love dogs and don't mind the showers being a little low pressured. This was a day well spent at the beach! :D

    Doggy friends everywhere!

We went for the first time with our Rat Terrier. Jake has never been to the beach nor has he had the experience of seeing and playing with other dogs. He was so happy! This beach was easy access and had a lot of friendly people too. The beach tapered very gently to the ocean shore. There was lots of sand for the dogs to run and play. The water was clean and had only a little seaweed. Bring an umbrella and lots of water. They need shade and water just like us. We had a fantastic time.

    Watch for bugs!

We took our three boxers there and had a great time! If you're going southbound, it is right after the power plant (thanks to the other user for typing that). We hosed our dogs off and sat under the covered picnic area to be swarmed by mosquitos. LOTS of mosquitos. When you're done at the beach, hose off and pack up (or bring bug spray).

Nice beach...by a nuclear power plant

We were excited to go to Walton Rocks dog beach until we learned that it's not even a mile from the St. Lucie nuclear power plant. The beach looked nice and dogs were having a good time but the proximity of the power plant just spoiled the trip for us. We went down south to Jupiter beach instead. Their long dog beach is great too and no power plants nearby.

    So Doggone Fun

We have been here several times. It's around a 2 hour drive for us but worth it. Sure the bathrooms aren't fancy but who really cares, we're there to be on the beach not in the bathroom. The kids love splashing in the waves and playing in the sand. The whole family enjoys it and having the dogs (who are part of our family) with us makes it much better. There have been a few irresponsible dog owners show up, but irresponsible people turn up everywhere. A 5 bone dog beach for sure!

    Great beach

We have been to many of the dog beaches in Florida and anytime out with the pooches is a good time but Walton Rocks is especially fun for them because its off leash. They have the freedom to swim and chase birds without the restraint of a leash. The map is being fixed by google to show where it actually is (first left after the nuclear power plant) Not a super busy beach with a few dogs here and there mostly just keeping to themselves. Great place to set up a tent and make a day of it. We drive from Orlando (little less than 2 hours down the turnpike) spend the day stop for a bite to eat in Ft. Pierce on the way back and then back up the turnpike home. Great beach for dogs, shells, and swimming. Cant wait to get back will post pictures soon.

A Great Day With My Dog

Yes, maybe the showers and bathroom are rustic. It took an hour and a half for me to get there. A day at the beach with my dog, off leach, was well worth it. Spent hours running up and down the beach and playing with the dogs in the surf. My dog didn't complain once about the bathrooms. Remember that your doing this also for your dog. There aren't many places to let your dog loose. to just be a dog. Put up with it, their worth it.

    Wonderful time

I went to the dog beach today its toward the end of May. Apparently it is love bug season and kind of ruined the experience a little because they were swarms of them everywhere. The beach itself however was a very good experience. The dogs that were off leash were very well behaved, the beach was very clean and the water was a clear blue. I loved watching the other dogs play and my little dog loved digging holes in the sand and playing in the water and fetching sea shells. I kept her on leash because I do not quit trust her off leash yet but it is nice knowing that I had the option. I would definetly take her back and I really enjoyed the pet-friendly area on my vacation.

    Not on map.

We followed the map directions and ended up at the Seabreeze restaurant which is supposed to be across from the park. It isn't. The park is actually about another nine miles down the road. The entrance is just past the power plant. The park was wonderful and our boy had a wonderful time. The showers were working fine, but I wish they afforded some privacy. All in all wehad a wonderful time.

    Great time!

We took our two great danes and our lab mix for their very first experience with the ocean. They had a blast! In the surf and on the sand! There were many other dogs, but enough room for everyone without having to mingle. This was a VERY large area for the dogs and we were amazed at how we did NOT see dog poo on the beach, but we did see lots of human trash which was a big disappointment. We are planning on returning tomorrow and will tell others about this beach. Thanks Fort Pierce for this dog access beach!

    Best Dog Beach so far

My husband & I have 5 dogs. We have been to various dog beaches in FL and this by far has been the best one. It was pretty empty which we loved & there is plenty of room for the dogs to run. They had bathrooms & a covered picnic table. We had a blast and will be going here a lot more often.

Just to have an Off - Leach Area

Some new repairs have been made since I was here. I've met nice people with pets. But one of the re-tired volunteer people driving an official security car howled out his window to me, that my dogs should be on an leach! The county workers, eating lunch there, said he was wrong it was an off-leach pet area. I reported what had happen to the sheriff office. They said the volunteer were not suppose to say anything to anyone, only report things wrong that they see. I was just there Jan. 2010, pets were playing free of a leash.

    Disappointed

After finding this beach online and looking at pics,I was expecting a Fantastic place,,,Very dispointed that as you drive in there is only one covered pavillion with a mosquito problem, old shower that has no water pressure and is constantly running,,when you drive down to the end there are OLD VERY worn out picnic tables and another covered pavillion that county workers sat at the whole 2 hours we visited beach!.Its nice they allow dogs but could use a little more TLC.

I have taken both my dogs to this beach and it is a great area, the beach is tucked away from the road and you drive though a little wooded area and come upon a clearing which leads to the beach, there are restrooms, showers, picnic tables and benches, also special areas for poop bags and disposal. This park allows off leach dogs and is real nice and well worth the visit. I would visit more often if I did not live so far away but it is well worth the trip.
