    Fantastic Mile Long History

Part of the old historic Route 66 Motherroad, the old Chain of Rocks bridge boasts some cool history. Definitely park on the Illinois side to read up on the bridge before crossing it (and it's the safer side to leave your vehicle). Traverse the bridge and stop at the plaques for a bit more information on the Mighty Mississippi. Make the walk back across the bridge from Missouri for a 2-mile walk. There are a number of trails beneath the Illinois approach. Our pup enjoyed the paved path on the bridge with the wind blowing through her hair!
