    Good Spot For Dogs

This beach isn't the prettiest of beaches, but it is clean and the sand is hard packed so it's easier for your pups to walk on the sand. Only 4 stars because in order to access the beach you have to navigate your pup over rather long and tall stairs. This made the trip difficult for our senior pup. We later saw that some access points had ramps, but our house was very far from those. They do require leashes and you'll frequently pass other pups walking on the beach.

    1st trip to the beach

We decided to bring our Mini Aussie on his 1st beach trip. He did have to stay on his leash but Mommy would have been to nervous to let him free anyways. Had no problems whatsoever. My dog that doesn’t normally like water loved the beach & we all had a awesome vacation together. Great memories for us & our pup. So glad to find a pet friendly beach so the whole family could enjoy!

One of Many Dog Friendly Beaches in Area

This whole area is so dog friendly. We loved Jekyll Island Beach and also Driftwood Beach, Great Dunes Park, etc.

    Great For Dogs

There are many dogs on the beach and everyone is real understanding. People ask to pet or the give you plenty of space for your dog. A wonderful place to vacation!

    Dogs loved it

I liked that they enforce leash law. So pretty anytime of the day

    Leashes enforced

I don't know why strict leash enforcement is such a gripe for so many of these reviewers. I'm personally glad that this is a priority. It ensures that my dog and everyone else's dogs remain safe. I can rest easy knowing that your dog won't be able to run up on mine and start a fight. It just makes sense.

    Not Happy With Jekyll Beach

We brought our dog here hoping to let her chase her frisbee in the ocean. We made sure not to go to the South End of the island where dogs are forbidden.
However, we were very disappointed when a man on a golf cart patrolling the beach for evildoers, stopped us and told us our dog must be on leash. Even though she was just chasing her frisbee in the ocean
The same man asked to review my sand dollars that I had gotten off the beach. I had to let him look through them even though I told him I had no live sand dollars.
Kind of tough tactics against a retired couple trying to stay at Jekyll and enjoy the beach.
He ruined our day at the beach.

    Dogs must be leashed

Unlike the freedom offered in other Southern beaches, including Saint Simons Island, dogs must be leashed.

    Beware of spiny burr grass

Grass was so short, but all four of my dog's paws had to be cleaned after barely taking one step on the beach. Even after I strictly let her walk on the sidewalk, I still was pulling them off her. The loose burrs are in between boards on wood walkways & on concrete paths.

    Lots of fun!

I can't say enough about how wonderful Jekyll Island is. It's a great place to relax and let your dog play. It's not crowded at all. I highly recommend coming here.

    Amazing Fun with Dog

This was my first vacation with my dog at the beach. I have never been to Jekyll island and I have to say it was great! It is a small island but there are great things to do there. There is a nature walk which was fun, as well as walking at Driftwood Beach which was so fascinating to see. I definitely recommend it.

    Awesome hidden beach

This was our first vacation with our dog. I have nothing but great things to say about Jekyll Island. The hotel was very dog friendly, the beach was awesome to take your dog and everyone was so dog friendly here. The beaches are not crowded at all, we felt like we had our own private beach. Very family oriented and peaceful in Jekyll Island.

    very sad

Was looking forward to spending time with my puppy on beach and letting her be free and happy. But to find out from locals that laws had changed and all dogs have to stay on leach even on beaches. You need to up date your website so a dog that is trying to play does not get kicked by a women for trying to play with her dog. People were very cold and unfriendly. Not a place to go with a puppy or older dog.

    Great Beach

The beaches on Jekyll are wonderful! Great for Gracie wonder mutt to run around on, lots of open area. The driftwood beach is gorgeous! Make sure to bring fresh water for the dog to rehydrate.

    Slice of Heaven!

This island was amazing for us and out pup! We went to drift wood beach, one the the prettiest beaches in the world! There were a bunch of other well behaved pups but it was secluded enough that everyone had their own space! We will definitely be back!

    Pooch Fun

My partner and I took our dog here about 2 weeks ago, we loved it, he loved it. We paid $5 at the gate to get in, but it was worth it. Our dog is a little 'other dog agressive', so we asked the attendants at the entrance gate, who by the way were very nice and helpful, where the most secluded beach was to take him, he suggested drift wood beach. It was great. It was a little smaller then some of the other beaches on the island but we had the beach to ourselves. He got to roam off leash. We then walked him down one of the bike trails through the marshes. Great excercise for him and us. This place is very pet friendly, and you and your pooch will enjoy it.

    Great beach!!! A+++

My husband and I took our dogs to the beach for the first time. I have a boston terrier and a big black lab. The island could not have been anymore dog friendly. It was wonderful. We kept our dogs on a leash but we did see some dogs off the leash. The only concern we had was we saw quite a few jelly fish....so we had to keep an eye out. We had a great time!!!!

    Hospitable for Hounds!

We stayed on Jekyll Island for our vacation in May (when the weather was perfect). We rented a duplex with our two beagles and it was indeed an incredibly dog friendly area. Our only complaint would be the lack of dining options for humans. We were also not warned about the constant $5 admittance fee to the Island every single day that you stay there.
Other than those little issues, Jekyll is definitely one of our favorite vacation spots for us and the dogs! They ran along Driftwood Beach for miles with no one around and we often spotted dolphins just a few yards from the shore. Everyone was incredibly friendly to our dogs and they truly had the time of their lives splashing in the waves and running off leash a few times. Loved it! Highly recommend for dogs of all ages!

    Jekyll is an AWESOME getaway!!!

My human parents took their honeymoon on Jekyll Island, and they loved it as much as I did. I too, was a bit intimidated by the waves on the beach, but after some stern barking in the morning, they kept their distance. The beach was CLEAN, and I saw a lot of other dogs walking their parents (they like to call themselves "owners"...gotta laugh at that one), and all were very respectful and cleaned up after themselves. Jekyll is very relaxing...the historic district is beautiful, and the beaches are fantastic. Make sure to dine at Latitude 31....AWESOME food and a nice view of the Intercostal Waterway. From my front row seat on my moms lap in the car, I can say Jekyll is easy to get around in...just remember that Jekyll is also a Georgia State Park, and a parking fee of 5 dollars is charged every day you leave the island, or you can get a weekly pass....well worth it for such a clean, peaceful and relaxing place to hang out with the family.

    My favorite vacation spot

I take my human parents to Jekyll Island almost every year. Since I am quite small, I was frightened of the waves my first time there, but I soon learned how to escape being drenched. My favorite activity is bird watching and bird chasing (especially down near the fishing pier). To all my four-legged friends: Be careful visiting Driftwood Beach! They have some mean sticker bushes there! I disagree with the lady saying Jekyll has nothing to offer but the beach. My human parents love to bike ride, visit the Historic District, but mainly relax on the almost secluded beach during the off-season. They always rent a nice house with a fenced in yard so that I can safely go outside and chase squirrels and growl at the deer (they are much bigger than I) when they wander up to the fence in the late evening. They do wish there were better restaurants on the island and so do I, because they always bring me something special in those white foam cartons when they return home! All in all, I LOVE Jekyll Island and can't wait to go again in just a few weeks!

Awesome for Dogs, Decent for Humans!

If it weren't for the dog friendly beaches, Jekyll would have little to offer. For dog lovers, it's AWESOME! Be prepared to bring everything you will need with you as there is hardly even a gas station on Jekyll Island. Most hotels are dog friendly and the beaches are certainly dog friendly. Our dogs spend hours off leash running around, chasing waves, catching frisbees, and meeting new friends on the beach.
