Savage Mill Trail

The Savage Mill Trail is one of 1600 rail-trails supported by Rails-to-Trails Conservancy, a nonprofit organization that is working to create a nationwide network of trails from former rail lines and connecting corridors. Previously an unused railroad corridor, this "rail-trail" is now a great place to walk Fido in Jessup! The map below shows a parking area with convenient access to the Savage Mill Trail. Rails-to-Trails Conservancy has generously provided map data for this trail to Bring Fido for informational purposes only. For more detailed trail information, please visit TrailLink.com. Nice 1-mile wooded trail

Signage coming off the highway is a bit sparse, but the trail itself is lovely. It is a flat, dirt trail about 1 mike in length. It is not a loop so you just have to turn around at the end. Not too many people, so we were able to let our little woofer explore off the trail. Parking is across the street along the road, so be careful with your pup when getting in and out of the car as it is a busy area.

The Patuxent Branch Trail is what I was writing about. I also starts in Savage. The Savage Mill Trail is about 1 mile and is beautiful

Hard to Find the Trail to Lake Elkhorn

If you are looking for the trail from Savage to Lake Elkhorn, it's very hard to find. There are some other trails that don't go anywhere. One beautiful trail goes 1 mile along Savage then ends. Another trail from the hilltop above Savage Mill goes a mile or so and turns to a grassy path. The trail to Columbia is about 4 miles, 8 miles in and out. Go past the historical Mansion and to the baseball fields at the top of the hill.
