  Great for dogs

  The Sunset trail loop is part of a larger network of interconnecting trails in Cleveland National Forest. It's great for doing a choose your own adventure kind of hike. The trails are very well marked and maintained. It was a bit muddy with melting from the recent snow (late February) but no problem with hiking boots. Our pup was able to experience snow for the first time and loved it.

  Dogs Must Be On Leash

  Nice hike thru meadows. We really hoped to find the little laguna and big laguna lakes but they were all dried up. Dogs had to be on leash. The trails were nice but made more for biking than hiking with dogs. Super hot in July! Still happy we went and might try again in the late winter/early spring.

  Great hike and views

  This trail is part of the greater Mount Laguna and Big Laguna Trail system. It climbs up from the Big Laguna Trail for fantastic sunset views to the West and nice views of the meadow and observatory to the east. Unlike the rest of the trails in the area, Sunset Trail is Bike free which is nice for pups. The whole recreation area is VERY dog friendly and I usually run into just as many dogs as people when I'm out there. Water loving dogs will have a couple of ponds to splash around in. Weekends can be busy but during the week you'll often have the whole place to yourself.
