Pet Friendly Croft State Park
Croft State Park Once an army training base, Croft State Park covers more than 7,000 acres of rolling, wooded terrain just a few miles from downtown Spartanburg. The park offers 12 miles of biking and hiking trails, a playground, picnicking and camping, as well as fishing and boating in one of two lakes. Horseback riding in South Carolina state parks is widely popular, and Croft is known around the region for its equestrian facilities. Dogs are allowed in most outdoor areas provided they are kept under physical restraint or on a leash not longer than six feet. Cottonwood Trail The Cottonwood Trail is part of the Edwin M. Griffin Nature preserve, located minutes from downtown Spartanburg. The property protects a 1.5 mile stretch of Lawson’s Fork Creek and several feeder streams. Over 5 miles of trails offer runners and naturalists a break from city traffic. It provides a place for citizens to run, walk, kayak, canoe, and to enjoy other recreational outings. This urban greenspace has many unique and outstanding features including several wetlands, open spaces, geological formations, and offers habitat for deer, wild turkey, fox, beaver, raccoon, numerous birds and reptiles, wildflowers, and trees. Overmountain Vineyards and Winery Tasting Room Leashed dogs are welcome inside this family-owned vineyard’s wine tasting room, which overlooks the Tryon foothills. You can purchase a sample tasting of their current-release wines, or buy them by the glass or bottle. They offer distinctive French-style whites and reds, which are all created primarily from 17 acres of their own estate-grown fruit. No outside alcohol is permitted and they don’t serve food, but you’re welcome to bring your own picnic to accompany the wine. They have bar stools and a few small tables inside, as well as a variety of covered/uncovered seating outside, such as a porch, two patios, a small pavilion, and grassy areas with seats.
