You'll feel like you're in the wilds of Canada, rather than the island of Hawaii. There are a number of overlooks along the way, including one of Kuliouou Valley. It's generally considered a moderately difficult hike that'll take under two hours to complete. There's no parking, so you'll have to park at the beach park and walk down the street to the trailhead. You can either drop off your dogs at Lava Lava Beach Club with a friend to hold them while you go back and park in the main parking lot or you can park at Lava Lava Beach Club in the gravel overflow parking lot.
