Pet Friendly Joyce Kilmer Memorial Trail in Robbinsville, NC
Joyce Kilmer Memorial Trail is a moderately easy, 2 mile hike in Nantahala National Forest that will take about 1 hour to complete with Fido. This figure eight shaped trail through old-growth forest of eastern hemlocks and tulip poplars is beautiful and offers stream crossings. Hunting in the surrounding game lands is in season September through March, except for Sundays, so be sure to wear bright orange. Please note that dogs are not required to be on a leash, except between April 1 and August 15; however, because of high visitation, rangers strongly advise hikers to keep dogs on a leash year-round.
Pet Friendly Tsali Recreation Area in Robbinsville, NC
The recreation area has 4 trails, totaling over 36 miles which are used for mountain biking and horse back riding. The trails alternate between the two, so you can always take your dog on a trail where bikes are not. The trails are easy and well maintained. The area is beautiful and there are frequent creek crossings for your pet to get water. While you officially need to keep your pets on leash, we have never had a problem with off-leash. Be mindful of hunting season.
