Fishhook Lake, Lost Lake and Lake Elmo Trail

Fishhook Lake, Lost Lake, and Lake Elmo Trail is a six-mile hike in Routt National Forest that will take about four hours to complete with Fido. Three miles from the trailhead, you will find Lake Elmo, which is one of three lakes on the trail. The three-mile section of this hike that follows the very old trail runs in the valley on the west side of the Continental Divide.

Yampa River Core Trail

The Yampa River Core Trail is one of 1600 rail-trails supported by Rails-to-Trails Conservancy, a nonprofit organization that is working to create a nationwide network of trails from former rail lines and connecting corridors. Previously an unused railroad corridor, this "rail-trail" is now a great place to walk Fido in Steamboat Springs! The map below shows a parking area with convenient access to the Yampa River Core Trail. Service Creek Trail

Service Creek Trail is a 24 mile hike in Routt National Forest that will take about 10 hours to complete with Fido. This area of the mountain remains a little more isolated and primitive due to the fact that other ranges are more easily accessible off of the highways from Denver. You will see remnants of past logging operations as you wind through dense forests on this trail that follows Service Creek.

Stagecoach State Park

Dogs are welcome a certain sections of Stagecoach State Park. You can bring Fido with you to enjoy the reservoir, campgrounds, and picnic areas as long as they are on a leash under six feet. Historically, the area would have been full of early settlers heading to the Ole' West to make a better name for themselves. Stagecoach State Park is open every day of the week from 8:00am to 4:30pm.
