The Hippie Tree The Hippie Tree is a pet-friendly landmark in Traverse City, MI. The tree received its nickname because of the spiritual visitors (hippies, as locals called them) who would come to this spot for enlightenment. After receiving visions, these artists painted bright, neon paint on the tree's bark. The address listed is for Greenspire School, which is adjacent to the trail.
