Pet Friendly Bodie State Historic Park
Bodie State Historic Park Bodie State Historic Park is a dog-friendly ghost town that was once filled with hopeful gold miners, and is now a reminder of the exciting times of the Californian Gold Rush of the mid 19th-century. Fido is welcome to join you in this state park but must be on a leash at all times. You can wander around the old buildings and think about William Bodey, who discovered small amounts of gold in the hills north of Mono Lake, and who the town was named after. Dogs are not allowed on the Stamp Mill tour or in the Museum and you should clean up any mess they make while on site. The park is open in the summer, April 1st to October 31st, from 9am to 6pm; and in the winter, November 1st to March 31st, from 9am to 4pm. See Details
The Forest of Nisene Marks State Park The Forest of Nisene Marks State Park in Aptos, CA, is dog friendly. This redwood forest is home to trees that stretch up to 2,600 feet into the sky above. Although logging felled thousands of trees that once stood in the area, many new trees are starting to grow back to cover the land that lay bare for so long. Dogs are only allowed on Aptos Creek Fire Road and the four single-track trails below the steel bridge. Unfortunately, dogs are prohibited beyond the gate at the Porter picnic area parking lot. Mono Lake Tufa State Natural Reserve Mono Lake Tufa State Natural Reserve is dog-friendly. Pets can explore the tufa towers and rare ecosystem around Mono Lake, as long as they are cleaned up after and leashed. Dogs are allowed everywhere in the Reserve, except for the boardwalks, county park, and the north shore area. There are a number of dog-friendly hiking trails on the property and your pooch is welcome to walk through the date groves on a leash. This park includes access to the beach via the San Carpoforo Creek, but be careful if you try to walk across the creek as it is sometimes connected all the way to the ocean and may be difficult for Fido. Pet owners looking to go on a wander of the coastline can also check out the Junge Ranch Trail, which allows leashed pups on the 2.2 miles back trail covered in wild flowers. Redwood Valley Railway (Tilden Steam Train) The Redwood Valley Railway, also known as the Tilden Steam Train, is a dog-friendly attraction in Orinda, CA. This 15 inch gauge steam railway circles through the forest lined with more than 600 coast redwood trees, specifically planted by the railway. The cars are small, open air with benches and the trip lasts about 15 minutes. There are restrooms and a small gift shop at the boarding site.
