Fontainebleau State Park Fontainebleau State Park in Mandeville, LA is dog friendly. Formerly the location of a sugar plantation in the mid-19th century, this 2,800-acre park can be found on the pretty shore of Lake Pontchartrain. There are a couple of trails dotted around the park including a 4.8-mile hiking trail which you can explore with your leashed dog. Algiers Point Canal Street Ferry The dog-friendly Algiers Point Canal Street Ferry in New Orleans, LA, brings small dogs and their owners back and forth across the Mississippi River. Dogs must travel in a carrier and the carrier must fit on the person’s lap. The ferry leaves Algiers Point every 30 minutes on the hour and half hour, and leaves Canal Street every 30 minutes at a quarter until and a quarter after the hour.
