Dogs have a dedicated off-leash area near the entrance at Fulton St. and 38th Ave. There are four separate off-leash areas: the southeast section between Lincoln Way, King Drive and 2nd and 7th Avenues; the Northeast section at Stanyan and Grove Streets; the Southcentral area between King Drive, Middle Drive, and 34th and 38th Avenues; and the fenced training area at 38th Ave. and Fulton.

The enclosed area has some agility equipment, lots of balls to throw, a large water pan with running water, and a double entry system to ensure the safety of all dogs going in or out. A large portion of the park is off leash for dogs under good voice control. Dog waste bags are freely provided, as are numerous cans to put the waste into. There also is another large portion of the park that is restricted to dogs on leash only, however, most people ignore the leash requirement. This is an awesome park to walk with your dogs!

The park is also popular for Fido's owner, with a variety of recreational options including bay fishing, hiking, birdwatching, biking, and jogging. Dogs may be taken off leash at Pt. Isabel Regional Shoreline. Any person allowing their animal to be off leash must carry a leash (six-foot maximum), keep their dog or other animal under voice control and within sight at all times, clean up after their dog, immediately leash any dog showing aggressiveness, and prevent dogs from digging or otherwise damaging park resources. The Sit and Stay Cafe, located on-site, is a great place to get a coffee and water after your walk. If your pooch gets really messy, you can also stop by Mudpuppies for a wash or grooming before getting back in your car.

This beautiful little park in Bernal Heights is SF's best kept secret. It's a great place for dogs to play with other dogs or play catch with their human. It's also a great place for dog lovers to meet other dog lovers. Posted signs say on-leash only, but most folks let their dogs run free. The beauty of this park is that owners pick up after their dogs, and maybe because it is a small park and owners are close by, dogs are remarkably friendly toward other dogs and people. The park is mostly grass with walkways and lots of trees. There is a baseball diamond (fenced-in) at the top of the hill, two fenced-in kiddie playgrounds and fenced-in barbecue areas.

Deer Creek Village Dog Park

This is a new, big, fully-fenced dog park in the Deer Creek Village shopping center by Friedman's. The shade trees need time to grow, so there's no shade right now, but it's huge, a large central area of wood chips with an adjacent area of open space. Has waste bags, benches, etc. and a sandy walking path around the wood-chip area.

Progress Park

Although partially located beneath 280, the fenced-in and double-gated dog park is really quite pretty. It is large and completely fenced in, which enables owners to relax while having the dog off-leash. The park is entirely mulched, so there can be quite a bit of dust thrown up when dogs are chasing each other. It's a hidden treasure, but be considerate that this park is maintained entirely by local volunteers.
