Certain sections of Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park are dog-friendly. Leashed dogs are welcome to explore paved roads, developed campgrounds, and day use areas. They are not allowed on any State Park trails. Many of the campsites are located along the Big Sur River. There is a $10 day use fee, per car. Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park is open from a half hour before sunrise to a half hour after sunset.

The park is open half an hour before sunrise until half an hour after sunset.

Garland Ranch Regional Park is a gorgeous park with the Carmel River running through it. Dogs are allowed off-leash in certain areas, including in the river and on selected trails (not the horse trails). Atop the northern crest of the Santa Lucia Mountains, the trails encounter open oak savannas and spectacular vistas. Along the way, you will travel through maple-filled canyons, dense oak woodlands, and thick stands of chaparral.

Mission Trail Park offers 35 acres of trails in southeast Carmel. If you enter the trail system via Mountain View Avenue (where it turns into Forest Road), you can take a nice little walk down to the Carmel Mission Basilica. You can also enter the park from Rio Road, across from the mission.
