The dog-friendly trail is primarily used for hiking, walking and running, and is best used from March through November. The trail leads to a little over 1,000 feet in elevation gain. Gold Camp Road Gold Camp Road follows the former railroad from Colorado Springs to Cripple Creek called the "Short Line". In the 1920s the railroad has been converted to a car toll road, eventually becoming a free public road. In 1988 tunnel #3 collapsed and was never repaired. This dog-friendly trail, rated as easy to moderate, offers incredible views of Pikes Peak and Ute Pass. There are two trails to choose between, a 3-mile or 6-mile hike.
