Previously an unused railroad corridor, this dog-friendly "rail-trail" is now a great place to walk Fido in Poughkeepsie! An ancient "cathedral-shaped" cavern on a brook, Dover Stone Church is dog friendly. Dogs must be leashed during their trek to the historic attraction. The area features a Gothic formation of stones, a "pulpit" rock ledge, a brook flowing through the cavern and a small meadow with three spring-fed ponds.

Dogs can join their owners at Clarence Fahnestock State Park in the Carmel Hamlet area of Cold Spring, NY. This pet-friendly, 14,086-acre recreation area is expansive and covered with scenic trails. There's a maximum of two pets allowed in campsites and day-use areas. Pets are to be supervised and on a leash under six feet in length and are not permitted in playgrounds, buildings, golf courses, boardwalks, pools, spray grounds or guarded beaches.

Although the pet-friendly trail skips Butter Hill and Storm King Mountain, it does offer beautiful views of the Hudson River, Bannerman Island, Cold Spring, and Constitution Marsh and is also more lightly traveled. Dogs are not permitted in picnic areas and must be leashed.
