The hike takes you through tall forests on a marked trail. To make sure you're on the right track, stick to the pink markers that are dotted around. Dog owners are reminded to keep their pets on a leash on the trail and to clean up any mess that they leave behind.

Wharton State Forest is pet-friendly. This park is a bird watchers paradise, with lots of interesting species to be discovered, including bald eagles, red-tailed hawks, marsh hawks, ospreys, great blue herons, swans, screech owls, great-horned owls, bluebirds, hummingbirds, and more. There are a number of hiking trails around the park that you and your pooch can explore together, such as sections of the Batona Trail, a 50-mile trail that connects three different state forests. Unfortunately, pets are not allowed on the beach of Wharton State Forest. Wharton State Forest can be accessed every day of the week between sunrise and sunset.
