Bob Jones City to the Sea Trail Pick up a delicious picnic lunch from the Avila Valley Barn before hopping on the 2.5-mile Bob Jones City to the Sea Trail (which starts right behind the farm) in San Luis Obispo, CA. The paved, dog-friendly trail winds its way through the Avila Valley, following a beautiful stream all the way to Avila Beach. Either of the town’s two off-leash dog beaches (Olde Port Beach and Fisherman’s Beach) can be accessed by walking a half mile past the trail’s official end in the somewhat narrow bike line on Avila Beach Drive. West Cliff Drive Bring Fido for a hike along West Cliff Drive, a pet-friendly trail in Santa Cruz, CA. This 3-mile one-way, walking and biking path along the Pacific Ocean starts at the Santa Cruz Municipal Wharf, winds past the iconic Santa Cruz Dream Inn, Steamer Lane, and Lighthouse Point, and ends at Natural Bridges State Beach. Tuna Harbor Park Tuna Harbor Park is a dog-friendly park in San Diego, CA. Located a 1-min walk from the USS Midway Museum, this bayside park features shaded grassy areas, a promenade and the Unconditional Surrender sculpture, which is the iconic image of a sailor kissing a nurse. Dogs are allowed on leash in all Port of San Diego parks. The park can be accessed every day of the week from 6:00am to 10:30pm. See Details
Elfin Forest Recreational Reserve Elfin Forest Recreational Reserve is a dog-friendly area in Escondido, CA. Your leashed pup is welcome to join you on the 11 miles of trails through the reserve. California Citrus State Historic Park Spanning over 400 acres of southern California, the dog-friendly California Citrus State Historic Park in Riverside is a throwback to the early 1900s, a time when citrus fruits were being touted as the second gold rush of the state. The California Citrus State Historic Park has lots of demonstration groves and picnic areas among the trees. Leashed dogs are welcome on several trails around the groves, but aren't permitted inside any buildings. Hours vary by season so be sure to check their website before visiting. See Details
Butano State Park Dog-friendly Butano State Park is a quiet canyon brimming with babbling creeks and redwood trees in Pescadero, CA. Leashed dogs are welcome in the campground and in paved developed areas. Dogs must be confined to a tent or vehicle at night, and they are not allowed on trails. See Details

Plumas-Eureka State Park Plumas-Eureka State Park is a pet-friendly area in Blairsden-Graeagle, CA. Although the focal point of this park is the museum building and historic area surrounding it, Fido is only allowed on the fire roads and not inside the building. However, you can enjoy the dog-friendly Grass Lake Trail, a 3.8-mile hike that follows along a number of impressive lakes in the area. You can find the start of this trail at the Jamison mine. Westridge-Canyonback Wilderness Park Your pup is welcome to join you while hiking the trails of Westridge-Canyonback Wilderness Park in Encino, CA! The pet-friendly recreation area is contiguous with the 20,000-acre urban wilderness park called the “Big Wild.” The park is accessible from the San Fernando Valley at San Vincente Mountain Park and West Los Angeles at the end of Westridge Road. Rose Valley Falls Trail Rose Valley Falls Trail is an easy, 0.75 mile hike in Los Padres National Forest that will take about half an hour to complete with Fido. This dog-friendly trail is great for anyone wanting an easy hike, perhaps to bring along small children. There is only a little bit of bumpy ground with small stream crossings, which may pose a problem for the elderly. It's recommended to bring a towel to clean Fido's paws after the hike. See Details
Arcata Community Forest Take Fido for an adventure through dog-friendly Arcata Community Forest in Arcata, CA. Comprised of 793 acres of towering redwoods, the forest is popular with hikers, cyclists, runners and horseback riders. Leashed dogs can join you to explore 11 miles of multi-use trails. Camping is prohibited. There are several trailheads into Arcata Community Forest, including a parking area and trail access from Fickle Hill Road. See Details
Mount Lowe Railroad Trail Mount Lowe Railroad Trail is one of 1600 rail-trails supported by Rails-to-Trails Conservancy, a nonprofit organization that is working to create a nationwide network of trails from former rail lines and connecting corridors. Previously an unused railroad corridor, this "rail-trail" is now a great place to walk Fido in Altadena! The map below shows a trailhead where you can pick up the Mount Lowe Railroad Trail. Tahoe Rim Trail Portions of the Tahoe Rim Trail in Tahoe City, CA, are dog friendly. Regulations vary depending on what segment of the 165-mile long trail you are enjoying. Dogs on the trail should be kept leashed around other trail users, at trailheads, and on steep or slippery terrain. Make sure your dog is also under voice control at all times. The multi-use trail is on the banks of Lake Tahoe and has views of mountain cascades in the distance. The Tahoe Rim Trail Association recommends winter trailhead parking at 64-Acre Park in Tahoe City, Brockway West trailhead, Mt. Rose Summit trailhead, or Kingsbury North trailhead (off North Benjamin Road). See Details

Although the beach doesn't allow dogs, you can wander along this boardwalk and get a feel of the sea air with your pooch. Wawona Meadow Loop Wawona Meadow Loop is a dog-friendly trail in Yosemite National Park, CA. The centerpiece of the meadow that this hike takes in is a nine-hole golf course. This 3.6 mile hike is a wonderful chance to experience a variety of colorful wildflowers. Leashed dogs are welcome as long as they are never left unattended. See Details
Bartholomew Park Explore the 3-mile trail within Bartholomew Park with your dog. Take in the duck pond and windmill, weave through mature oaks, madrones, redwoods and vineyards, and follow wildflowers up the log steps and cresting at a view of San Francisco Bay. Free parking is available within the park, in the designated area. The trail is moderate to difficult in places and dogs must remain on leash at all times. Wine bottles to go can be purchased at Bartholomew Estate Winery to enjoy at the picnic tables inside the park. See Details
